I had Corbin for beginner french and he was an excellent teacher. I do want to acknowledge that I'm a native English speaker and I studied Spanish in high school, so french came easier to me than students who did not know any cognates. I definitely would take this class again. It was engaging and didn't feel like school, because it was fun!
teaches mostly through textbook, however the textbook can be pretty confusing. Attendance is very important. Starts off as a very easy course and then gets much harder so get into good habits early
Excellent professor. Highly encourages the use of French and makes the native speakers work just as hard as French-learning students in order to get a good grade. I highly recommend Christophe!
His thick accent was a bit difficult for me to understand at first but easy to get used to. He was very willing to help outside of class! A lot of reading is required for daily class discussions, and the readings/discussions help a lot for the midterm and final which is a free-write essay. Also, he really does look for improvement.
Extremely helpful, made this class so much fun. Encourages use of the language whenever possible. Highly recommend.
Straightforward and easy. Does take attendance, but you should be going to class anyway. Entertaining, makes jokes. Clear with his expectations. He does require a problematique but that's mandatory for all French 6 classes.
homework every night but is collected at random. follows syllabus but no calendar, which sucks. not very much notice for compositions. does not go over all the material that is on the tests. the only reason i did well is because i got a 4 on the AP. lenient on grading comps but requires corrections and a "problematique" (and who knows what that is)
He followed Nesci's syllabus, so the class partially sucked because of her. There were people who's 1st language was french and he basically graded the rest of us against them-makes no sense because we weren't all native french speakers. Also he basically decided what grade you were going to get after the 1st paper-improvement was not relevant
