Class was my best last quarter because of the subjecgt material. He is helpful if you talk to him, even tho he seems intimidating. Website has all the class notes, which is extremely useful. Totally passable if you put in the hours.
Teaching did not get through to me. Skips over material. What is to be expected on tests is very vague, "If you have learned something you will do fine". Uses some very funny dark humor in analogies.
Hacker did a good job of teaching mineralogy and emphasizing the important stuff. Midterm/final weren't too difficult; if you understand the material you'll do well. Lab final was necessarily tough, but there's no getting around having to memorize mineral formulas, etc. for this class. Recommended.
This course is filled with useful info for the major and Hacker really did a good job on fitting it all in while highlighting the useful aspects. He's a funny guy and lectures weren't super boring. The labs were definitely more difficult than the midterm or final (which were ridiculously easy)
Best class I've taken. I learned a ton about real-world geology and how to make and interpret a geoklogic map
Way more interesting than I thought it would be.
Brad is a pretty good teacher. He's relatively enthusiastic and loves to crack jokes. He tries to be as clear as possible, but hasn't taught this class before, leaving some room for improvement. Tests, quizzes, lab are all very fair and if you try, you'll do well.
