Aside from his thick Spanish accent, Checa's is an amazing lecturer! If you read the assigned material before class, it'll help you take better notes in class since you can't understand what he writes on the board. He has you take three exams which really test if you read the material. If you read- you're solid! My fav class at SB so far!
He speaks very softly and is monotone. Rambles the entire time and does not stop, not even to answer questions. He doesn't like students to question anything. And his lectures are just summaries of the reading. For tests, he just puts a name or term and you must write everything you know in 10 sentences. HARD grader and not fair!
this guy is sooooper easy!!!! just study his study guide and youre golden! i crammed for 2 hrs b4 the test and got a B. but he is also really boring and u cant understand him at all
the sweetest guy ever. i loved him. hard to follow at times but you must attend lecture to understand the midterms and finals. easy though. do the study guide thats all you need
I absolutely LOVE him. He is by far my favorite professor that I've had at UCSB. I have taken 3 of his classes! All of his notes are on Powerpoint, so make sure that you attend class. His tests are very straightforward and easy if you study. Just do the study guide that he gives you and it is basically the notes. I recommend him 100%.
He is very passionate about his work, knows his material. Yup, there's a lot of lecturing but presents interesting points all in PowerPoint so bring your laptop. If you do the readings material is easier to understand. Very nice person and doesn't have a lisp, that's his Spanish accent. On study guides make sure 2 get partners to cover everything.
okay i have to disagree, this teacher is a sweetheart...always nice and accomodating to students and willing to help :) lectures are explained well throughout and the class is not that hard, id definitely recomend taking his class!
Extremely boring. Has a Spanish lisp (hard to understand). But is a nice man who is accommodating to students. Easy class. One small reader, 1 book of poetry. 2 midterms, 1 final, all essay. Let's you retake tests on which you get B- or lower. Easy, but boring
Don't forget to bring your pillow and a bottle of Nyquil to this class. Seriously, this guy is boring and he repeats himself over and over and has illegible writing. However, I will say that his tests are very easy so if you're looking for a class to get an easy A take this one, if you don't mind taking an afternoon nap twice a week.
The material Don Quijote, is already very tedious to read but on top of that you have to sit and listen to this guy for over an hour is so boring, he uses old Spanish to talk. The tests are essay questions not so bad if you know your stuff. Kind of feel bad for the professor everybody leaves the class before is over.
The class is incredibly dry material, and he doesn't do anything to make it more interesting. He speaks very quietly and is difficult to understand. He is also kind of a jerk and I think most students are hesitant to answer questions, I know I am.
SUPER BORING. he doesnt speak loud enough or clearly. his handwriting sucks. the only good thing is that he uses a powerpoint presentation for each lecture(TAKE NOTES). 3exams and a final. the midterms are easy-5 identifications(3 random ones, and two on pictures 7-8 sentences), he gives exam reviews. he doesnt see or hear well & is shy and nice
