All lectures were recorded, which I utilized. Professor Dahlquist seems like such a wonderful person, but I never went to class simply because his teaching for this course was terrible! The TAs were confused. The students were confused. I'm pretty sure Rick was confused. It was just not great.

He's teaching style was a disaster. Not useful lectures where he talks about anything but what actually matters. Messy slides. Errors in the exams. Exams don't really reflect what he teaches. Didn't learn anything whole quarter and he ended with horrific final that had nothing to do with what he talked about in lectures. Your are on your own.

Super nice guy but an awful professor. Lectures we super disorganized and he often goes off on irrelevant tangents which only add to the unclear expectations in the class. Goes into niche details but fails to present intro material in a structured way. Even the TAs were confused.

lectures were unorganized and important information was skipped over. highly recommend reading the textbook pdfs he puts on canvas and going to TA sections and office hours (not his office hours).

Sweet guy. Terrible professor. Disorganized slides, often goes on random tangents, and overall doesn't know what he's talking about. Don't expect to learn a thing from lecture or his slides. Complicated diagrams/concepts with no explanation. Exam filled with errors. Again, he's a nice guy, but teaching is not his thing.

problem sets are useful, section wasn't unless you had questions. His midterms and final are MC/Short answer and are pretty difficult because he includes small details from his lecture slides. but he lets you use a cheat sheet. if you put in the work and study, the class is definitely doable

Rick's a chill guy. Although sometimes he can get a bit off track in lecture and tells us a story about how Biochem was like back in his undergrad days. I never bought/touched the textbook. Just studied from the lecture notes & problem sets and got an A. Discussion section isn't v helpful unless you have questions about the problem set questions.

1) He gives you problem sets that take FOREVER to do & then NONE of the stuff from them ends up on the tests. Learned the hard way theyre a waste of time. 2)Its SUPER irritating & UNFAIR how the only reason ppl did really well is bc they obviously were lucky enough to access old exams from sororities/frats or friends. Chill guy but the class isnt.

Seriously what do I pay tuition for if I am going to teach BIOCHeM to myself. I really had to find answers deep in the text, some questions are gimmes but do not out weigh the effort needed to do well in the class. Test are hard. Top 5 students scores are averaged and your grade is based on that which is some what fair. Good scientist, bad teacher.

I found his lectures unhelpful and had to teach myself everything. Tests had numerous errors on them

Despite what you may have heard, Dahlquist is a champ. 112C was a lot of work though, be prepared to pull a couple all-nighters. He is though, one of the most formidable protein NMR researchers in the world.

Material and PPTs disorganized. Bad at explaining concepts concisely; uses abstract and pointless examples that won't be tested. Book helps little. Homework easy A, graded on effort. Test difficulty varies with his mood, but can get absurd, where huge curves are required. Homework/test difficulty disjointed.
