This class presented a good amount of material, however professor Raymond fails at delivering the information in lectures. The only time Raymond showed passion in her lecture is when she when on a heated rant about gender & dress codes, making most men in the class feel uncomfortable. Raymond also comes of as arrogant and rude. Wouldn't recommend.
Let me break down how stupid her extra credit is for you. About 9 quizzes in a quarter worth 20% of grade ea quiz pt range from 2-5 pt ea quiz. You can get about 10 pt max for doing all her extra credit worth 10-12 pages of tedious work. But you are not guaranteed all 10 pts. She could still give you a 6/10 pt if she doesn't like it. So not worth.
Avoid classes unless you enjoy socializing with random strangers. Likes those who participate, but if that isn't you, don't take her. Group work is a large part of her classes. She gives pop quizzes on the reading very infrequently so be prepared to read every article. Lots of papers, but she does give some extra credit thankfully.
Ethnography. Find a topic you like. Pop quizzes in class and attendance are big part of grade. Lectures and readings are pointless, skim readings for the pop quizzes sake only. Her classes are boring and lectures aren't really helpful for your paper. You turn in weekly assign. to set up for project. Easy A.
Overall good class. TA J Gomez was great as well. Had 6 pop quizzes, takes roll, and asks students to participate regarding questions derived from the reading, so reading and attendance are mandatory. Readings were all online so no buying books. Encourages lots of group discussion, so you will need to be involved if you want to do well.
Elena enjoys teaching and working with students. Her lectures are well organized and she is open to student comments and questions. This is the second course I've taken with her and this one is harder than the previous (122). However it still was manageable work load. However I don't feel like I learned enough about research to actually conduct it.
Really easy class! occasional quiz on reading but very easy. Attendance mandatory--makes you sign in. Grade based on four assignments that are fairly easy, assignments are very repetitive. Easy A
Skapoulli is a great professor but after a few class meetings her lectures appear to be repetitious. Workload was not heavy-- the readings weren't completely mandatory since she didn't quiz us. Definitely an easy class!
Skapoulli is a very sweet woman who cares a lot about her students. However, she is not always clear with her lectures and class structure. Her classes are not extremely difficult, but because of the lack of clarity in her lectures, I probably would only take maximum 2 classes with her.
Material covered was very interesting. However for a class on social inequalities some of her vews were very closed minded. She preached about not labeling minorities as all the same which is right yet she continually preached how all law enforcement personell are unethical, corrupt, and all bad.
This professor spends the entire 10 weeks trying to teach only her views and opinions of the course material. For a class on social inequalities, I only learned one perspective...hers. She gave me a lower grade on an assignment because she did not agree with my opinion and explicitly commented on that in my paper. Waste of time.
Such a sweet woman! We had a reader for the course, we read the entire thing and discussed the readings daily. There were 2 essays (6 pages and final, 6-8 pages). And one power point presentation, which we didn't actually have to present. There are 5, 3 point quizzes, very easy if you do the readings.
