Everyone, despite your major, should take THTR 7 with Suk-Young. She is passionate, smart, and has seen so much of the world. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants a fun, interesting arts GE.
Interesting class even from those coming from non-theater backgrounds. Lots of in-class films, some interesting, some dead boring, but the Prof. Kim is really helpful and fun to talk to. Class was based on participation, attendance, and some short papers. The final project was the best. Had a blast in that class!
(This is a global theatre class; I had the Asian theatre topic.) Prof. Kim's lectures are kind of scatter-shot, with a lot of unrelated points. he got sidetracked from talking about visual art, rather than theatre. The reading was interesting, there's a lot of it. The papers topics are good, the final project is fun; my TA graded quite hard.
She's really nice but a bit of a hard grader. But if you read the plays (ALWAYS) and write your papers carefully, it's not too bad. You will learn a lot in one of her classes!
I really enjoyed her asian american class. She is really easy going and she tells really cute stories of her nerdness. like one time when she was home alone for new years abd she got all dressed up and went ot a club and just stood in the middle of everyone.
shes a total sweetheart, who knows a lot about what she is teaching, she accepts and encourages the opinions of others, and is a fairly easy grader so long as you read what is expected...
She was clearly interested in teaching this course. Sometimes her lectures can go into unexpected areas, but it was interesting to hear her ideas on so many different subjects.
