I really enjoyed taking Education Politics with her last quarter. She has a keen ability to make the material really interesting and I really respect her. A lot of her work is published in the field and she really knows what she is talking about. She does assign a 10-15 page paper but you can work in groups! I would recommend taking her class!

Her lectures are extremely long and boring, which is a shame because the material can be interesting. The tests are pretty easy though and she gives you the option of doing the paper in a group. She's a pretty way grader.

Mundane lectures with anecdotes making up most of the lecture. Provides study guides, but has intense reading load. TA was solid and extremely helpful. Overall, would not take again.

She does not use a powerpoint and sits the entire lecture (due to physical limitations) which makes paying attention VERY difficult. Gives you a study guide which is very helpful. If you have trouble keeping focus of staying awake in the morning, i don't advise this class.

A LOT of reading and a subject matter I wasn't too interested, but this professor was EXTREMELY clear and organized, and almost made the material interesting. I definitely learned a lot. A solid class and one of my favorite professors.

She is a very knowledgeable woman and my favorite PS prof of the whole bunch! I tool her 170, 180 and 182 she is indeed a much easier grader than Jessica Timpany (TA) If you are doing the Public Service emphasis she is definitely worth getting to know. Always helpful, she wrote my UCDC letter of rec. BEST and still my favorite Pol Sci Prof at UCSB

Although I didn't like the subject matter too much she is a great professor. She is very helpful if you attend office hours. I have to warn though that there is A LOT of reading so it's not to be taken too lightly. Probably one of the most reading intensive classes I've taken. She is also not a very hard grader for papers.

A thought provoking class, but a really dry subject matter. Political Policy Analysis.... She does her best to make it intersting. There is a ton of reading, much of it you can get by without doing, but some reading are imperative for tests. Mid term, final and 10-15 page policy paper. She is a nice lady, and graded easier then Jessica Timpany TA

I really enjoyed Professor McDonnell. If you are at all interested in education take her class PS 106ep, it was amazing. She is literally an expert when it comes to anything concerning education policy and practice. She is super helpful and really approachable. McDonnell is a pretty fair grader, take good notes and you can skim the reading.

She did such a job good for this class. I learned a ton from her class and can even apply what i've learned to real life work. She's soo intelligent and organized. One of the best classes i've taken here at UCSB. definitely recommend taking her classes.

The subject of this class (bureaucracy) did not interest me whatsoever at first, but through fairly interesting readings and lectures, McDonnell captured my attention. Her paper topics were interesting and her exams were very fair. Extremely nice lady and extremely smart!
