offers a little bit of extra credit
love
by far my favorite professor at UCSB so far. the class was graded in thirds: one third for the first paper, one third on the second paper, and one third based on attendance, participation, and journals based on the readings. such a lovely person to be around.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. I have the utmost respect for her and the only thing I regret about taking this class was not going to her office hours to get to know her better. The class is graded on 2 papers and journals due twice a week. Minimal reading. Participation counts. I will probably get a B in the class because I know my second essay was weaker
no tests and three paper opportunites but you only need to write two. daily write ups on the reading. love the way she runs class, but i hate poetry which made it more of a struggle. if you like or get poetry, it's fine, but I liked Caldwell in spite of the subject
She was sick and had to leave the class mid-quarter, but I greatly enjoyed her teaching style! Emphasis on class discussion. Only 2 papers and 10 journals required. Heavy reading though...100-150 pages per week. But that's because of the reading of 3 novels in 10 weeks. Interesting lectures and grader.
Awesome professor, took her for 2 classes and she is super passionate about her work and has great reading materials
Enthusiastic and passionate about the material she teaches. Encourages discussion in class. Generous grader and very kind lady. Overall, an excellent professor.
Not a difficult class to do well in, by any means, but she's very strict about attendance, which sucks because she is the most boring and dry prof I've ever had. Going to her class is the worst. You sit there listening to BS blah blah blah, but with daily journals and only 2 5-page papers, the class is not difficult to pass.
I loved the Bronte class taken with Caldwell. It was more discussion based than lecture based, which I find more useful as an English major. She doesn't just talk to her students but engages them. Also an easy grader.
Great teacher, took her ENGL 165LM Language and Medicine, it was a great class and loved the books we read. Only two papers due with the option to due a third if you do poorly on the first one. If you participate and read the books the class is cake and a half. Plus no midterm or Final just some journals in which are easy if you stay on top of it.
We had to write journals for every class based on what we read, to be turned in at the end of class, and two 5-page papers. In other words, really easy, interesting, and an emphasis more on discussion rather than lecture.
