Believes in grading on a curve even if its totally unfair; makes no sense whatsoever. The only non-A grade I received at UCSB. I was not one of his favorites.
He's very open to discussing work one-on-one. He's likely to do this with everyone, so prepare to wait around. He gets off-topic and doesn't like to be interrupted, even if you're just asking questions to understand his intellectual, verbose jargon. He can be brutal with criticism and it can be difficult to predict what ideas he'll find pointless.
harry was one of the more intellectually stimulating profs i had at ccs--i actually had my first exposure to cultural studies/theory in his art classes! he leaves things open a lot, so you have to be self-motivated to get projects done. i adore harry, even if i thought he didn't approve of me most of the time. not his fault, tho--them's my issues!
Harry's bookmaking class was the single worst class I took in college. He refused to help students, and he didn't actually teach anything. I brought him signatures to ask how to sew them together for a multiple signature book, and he refused to show me (though he told us he would). If Linda Ekstrom is teaching, take a class with her instead!
