He is a very good professor. He makes physics as easy at it can get. His lectures are posted online so you dont have to go to class. He also has review sessions to help you study for the quizzes. Great guy
I have more respect for this man than any other professor I've had here. He goes out of his way to ensure you succeed by helping in any way imaginable. Physics isn't easy, but Cannell makes it do-able as long as you're willing to work hard, and if you're not, I'd question what you're doing in college.
Cannell is a class act. Casually stylish and extremely helpful, he is a diamond in the rough. Love him.
This class was hard. In lecture he doesn't teach concepts right off the bat; instead expects that you have already done the reading and understand the concepts based off the homework. CLAS was helpful. Cannell is very nice and attending OH is a great idea. Be prepared to work in this class. Avg on final was 48%...
Best prof i've had at ucsb, and Im not even a physics major!
Best physics professor at UCSB. Engaging lectures, but stale homework. Luckily, the homework grade can be dropped if you do well on the tests. Midterms are pretty easy, but final is a bit trickier.
Great teacher. Really challenges students. Loves to answer and help students. If you understand the homework, you'll do well on tests, but homework is extremely difficult. Scores are generally low on homework and sometimes tests (although homework and midterms won't affect your grade if your final is your best score.) Just keep up with the material and work hard and it will payoff. Read the sections before class! It helps a lot!
If midterms do not help your grade, only final counts. Homework is optional. Highly conceptual class, no calculators are used on tests.
This man is one of a kind.
He really love physics. His proof and derivations are powerful. His explanations are sharp, directly pointing out the key to solve a problem. And he is really really nice, and would like to help students during office hours.
Good physics teacher. Prefers to omit teaching tricky concepts that arise in exams. Likes to see who can analyze a strange situation and connect it to things he did stress in class. Attend lecture, Final can be worth 100% of grade
While the class- on energy, angular momentum, gravitation, and fluids- will challenge any physics student, he'll push everyone to succeed. Rather than fling impossible problems at us, he provides us with the proper tools to attack any problem from the text- which are nearly impossible. I grew a lot as a student and find his life stories entertainin
