Lectures are scattered, repetitive, and irrelevant. Lots of reading but deliberately doesn't tell you which parts you should be paying attention to. "Quizzes" are 50 mult choice questions and 10 short answer, take entire 90 min class period. Hardly any lecture material in them. Unhelpful in office hours. 60% lab grade is saving grace.
Frank is a really nice guy, but his lectures are really confusing. You don't really know what you're going to be tested on. However, I liked this class, and the fact that the grade is about 60% lab helps a lot. For the final, however, you won't know what to study because he doesn't tell you what you need to know.
His lectures are really scattered and not clear. His class was 60% lab. If you do the reading quizzes to prepare for the final that should help. I didn't like this class.
Nice guy but his lectures are all over the place and he clearly chose a textbook that reflects his teaching style. Expectations very unclear, four tests based on lectures and tons of reading. One of my least favorite classes to date.
Very personable and kind professor. Went to office hours and he was very approachable and helpful with any questions. No attendance is taken for lecture, but it will make a big difference for the tests. And you absolutely have to do the reading because thats directly where the tests come from. Hands out pre-tests before exam day. Great professor.
great professor, very personable and helpful!
Lectures were nothing like the exams. READ THE BOOK! Spera is a super nice person but an awful teacher.
cutest man ever!
Don't take GEOL123 if you don't expect to work. Spera expands on topics from the books. You HAVE to read or you'll bomb the tests. Lecture is important as he tends to repeat important facts you'll need to know for tests. He's easy to approach & readily available at office hours or through email.
