Prof Humphrey's Phil of Phys class is a truly interdisciplinary and interesting class. He may present the concepts from the more "physics" standpoint at times (lots of math), but never expects you to do this on tests. He grades essays hard, go to OH's with your draft. Tests are based on lecture. He's an interesting guy to talk to, super friendly.
Expects you to know physics and high level math
This is the single greatest class I've ever taken. The professor is not perfect for everyone, and the class is not structured with homework and quizzes, but if you put in an honest effort and want to have your mind blown on a regular basis TAKE THIS COURSE. This isn't an easy sissy-class, but my goodness I wish I failed so I could take it again.
You need to attend lectures and write down what he says. He doesn't post lecture notes so that can be challenging. He does however post good supplementary handouts and stuff. Very interesting and challenging course. 1 mid-term and 1 final, in both he lets you choose questions. The paper was really challenging. In the end I was pleased with my grade
Phil of Physics was the hardest philosophy class I've ever taken because you NEED to know physics before you can understand the philosophy. He automatically assumed we knew related math/science terms so he didn't walk us through any of it. There's no SG so it's hard to figure out what's on the tests. Interesting lectures in an otherwise hard class.
The quantum mechanics class was awesome. It wasn't easy but it was extremely interesting and Humphrey is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Really, really smart guy and excellent teacher.
outstanding professor. really knows the material well. one of the most interesting (and hardest) philosophy classes i've taken. as hard as it was, still mad i only got a B+. if you take a class with him don't be lax at all if you want an A. you will learn so much. this guy is hardcore. so smart. I highly recommend him. every lecture is a trip.
Great professor, knows what he's talking about. He's always happy to answer questions. We hardly used the book. The final was much harder than the midterm -- both were short answer: 15 questions, answer 10. I got a lower grade than I deserved on my final paper, IMO.
