Professor Sutton teaches SO INCREDIBLY WELL. He makes class fun, explains difficult concepts (he acknowledges how esoteric they can be) and uses a lot of relevant life examples to make the material interesting. Hes incredibly humble for how established and great of an educator he is. If you go to lectures, take notes, you wont need the textbook.

Sutton was fine. I was really hoping he was as great as people said, but I just didn't feel it. Could've been the dim Buchanan classroom, maybe the time, maybe it was him. Only 20-30 people showed up to lecture, definitely not mandatory. He goes on A LOT of tangents (interesting but jeez). Lectures match his book, do 1 or the other and your fine.

Really boring class. The material nor the lectures are interesting; in our class of 120 only like 20 people showed up each class

I love the material taught in this class. It's very interesting, and Sutton is an engaging lecturer. However, if your TA grades unfairly then a great class turns into a nightmare. Take home midterms and finals are only helpful if you have a discerning grader. This was not the case this quarter. So BEWARE and take P/NP if you have TA issues.

Alright. I LOVE DR. SUTTON! Did not do any of the reading and didnt buy the book and still got an A. He's very engaging, enthusiastic, and friendly so he makes the class easy and clear. Attend lecture and take notes. 3 easy papers! I had Jeb as the TA. He's great! Good luck. Recommend :)

Lecture was a must, he goes over a lot of readings so you don't have to read them that much (there's a lot and they are long). For the final, it's 40 multiple choice questions, for which he will ask you some details about the readings, but if you work off the study guide he gives you, you should be fine

Best teacher I have ever taken at UCSB. He is very well spoken and interacts with students often throughout lecture. A lot of reading but its interesting to say the least. One take home midterm and in class final. I would take him again, extremely helpful and really knows his stuff!

Professor Sutton is a very funny and nice professor. He tells a lot of jokes in his class and tries to make his class entertaining. There are 3 easy papers in which students discuss UCSB as an organization.

Very clear with his lectures and is actually pretty funny. Two assignments, a midterm and final which account for your whole grade.

Extremely boring class. I could never pay attention. Not Sutton's fault, just a terribly boring subject I guess. He tried making it fun and interesting, but I was always falling asleep. The book was the worst. Three papers. Still managed to get an A despite that, so I guess if you want an A and don't care if its boring then take this class.

I am unsure how i feel about this class. He is hilarious and keeps you interested but he does tend to go off on A LOT of tangents especially when you are typing what he is saying.. err. EASY ESSAYS. I guess good class. I just wanted more clarity especially on slides. dont bother reading books. you can write the essays without all readingsgoodclass

One of my favorite profs. I didn't like the layout of the textbook (which he wrote), but no complaints otherwise. I think I could have gotten by without reading the book. To do well, take comprehensive lecture notes (attend lecture, even though it's not mandatory) and see him and the TA during office hours for exam help.
