BERNSTEIN H J
She's an excellent professor, especially if you care about the subject. While there is a lot of reading each week (usually ~30 pages of textbook plus ~30 pages of primary sources), if you keep up with it then participating in discussion and writing essays isn't difficult. Definitely a good class for history majors.
This class is fairly easy in terms of grading, but the lectures are a little quick, and there is a lot of reading and writing. Both the final and the midterm are in-class essays. As a history major, I liked this class, but my friends who aren't thought it was a little boring. Overall, if you need this class for a gen ed it is a good option.
When it comes to the professor, she is good, she knows her stuff and I respect that. All I'm gonna say is get ready to write, write, write! There is a lot of writing involved. It wasn't easy but you just gonna stay on top of your stuff to survive and you should be good. Overall, she was an ok professor, she was nice and is easy to talk to.
This class was very interesting but be prepared to write. It is a writing based class so if you don't want to do that do not take this class. It is also very dependent on your TA. I felt that my TA, although very nice and helpful was a much tougher grader than the others. Lectures are super interesting and both lecture and section are mandatory.
Good lecturer, but pretty boring after half a quarter but she's super nice in person. Jungki TA is my GOAT. Theres 3 in class essays (1 midterm and 2 final) and several primary source readings weekly. it's manageable but the texts are dense. You are also supposed to read the textbook alongside this but it doesn't do much. Disc post every week ok.
ACTUALLY HIST 121R (no option)- hard class, grades assignments tough, gives great feedback, expects lots of participation and groupwork, I spent more hours than I can even estimate on my paper, in the end she graded our final papers exceptionally nicely
lots of reading but its enjoyable, lecture get boring if u don't like content but if u do they're fun, tough grader but really detailed, genuinely wants you to do well. She is just a vibe!
Great lecturer and is very concise. Even though attendance is not mandatory, it is crucial to show up to class so you have notes for the three essays you will have to write. If you email her at an appropriate time, she will grant you an extension on an essay. A fair grader but you must put a decent amount of time towards this class.
Professor Bernstein appears to be kind at first, but once you visit her during office hours, you realize she is not. Upon going to office hours, she was quite rude to me when I simply asked about what I missed when I was sick UPON HER REQUEST. Most discouraging professor I have ever had, made me feel like a horrible student. Grades insanely hard.
She is nice and good at explaining things, but she grades pretty hard. Although, you can get extra credit through doing extra papers (which you will most likely have to do). I am usually an A student on essays and other wiring assignments so I was taken a step back. Lectures are not too interesting, and would have to force myself to go.
She is very passionate about what she teaches which helps because her lectures are extremely informative and clear. So long as you do the assignments and participate in section you should be on your way to an easy pass!
His 4B was definitely not the hardest class ever but personally the content is a little hard to get into. Depending on your TA the papers can be graded really harshly. Would recommend the professor but maybe not the class if you're not interested in medieval history.
