This was my last class in UCSB. I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. The homework is a little bit heavy, but she really cares about us and gives us good feedback.
Finished a whole year of Chinese with Prof. Hsu and loved it. She's a really great teacher and truly cares for all of her students. It was difficult at first, but make sure to utilize all of the resources on GauchoSpace; it helps you study more efficiently. Quizzes every week, tests every other week, but it's all manageable and enjoyable.
Hsu Laoshi is really funny and nice. My Chinese skill has skyrocketed in just one quarter. She's also really sassy and shares interesting stories from her life in Chinese. There is quite a bit of homework, but it is doable if u manage ur time well. Tests are ok as long as you study beforehand. Go to class and turn things on time!
Pretty cool teacher, you can tell that she cares about the class and tries her best to teach. She can unintentionally say some mean things (mean by american standards), but she means well.
One of my favorite professors at UCSB. She knows how to teach the material well and keeps the class engaged and entertained. A lot of work with weekly quizzes and homework, but all very easy and routine. Definitely recommend!
Hsu laoshi was a pretty good professor. She did a wonderful job of teaching and made the class interesting. In terms of the coursework, there were homework assingments for every Chapter and a test for every 2 units. Clear grading guidelines. Would take agian.
One of my favorite professors at UCSB. She's very engaging and works hard to ensure her students understand the content. Weekly homework assignments and quizzes, but it's predictable and nothing too difficult. Always looked forward to going to her class and had a lot of fun!
She is so funny and she always keeps you hooked onto her teaching. It is a very difficult class but she is always willing to help!
She really helps her students on studying. Just follow her steps, you will learn a lot and get good credit. The best professor in UCSB
She is very understanding, therefore if you miss a homework assignment, she usually allows you to turn the assignment in her office later that day still for full credit. She goes by the textbook and hands out a syllabus with the schedule for the rest of the quarter so you can always get ahead and know what to expect next in class.
Professor Hsu is very fun and keeps her students interested in learning Chinese. However, the weekly quizzes and characters (roughly 30 a week) to learn are quite daunting. I would recommend this class if you are interested in Chinese and are taking 12 units or less as Chinese will become your number one priority due to the heavy workload.
Lots of writing characters over and over again. Very tiring for me as I don't like to study this way. Aside from this, I really liked the teacher. She quizzes/tests us often, but if you pay attention, you'll get an A. Extra credit points available too. Very helpful, would definitely recommend this teacher to anyone who's interested in Chinese.
