This class is more based around the weekly discussion sections with the TAs than it is about the lectures and textbook readings. You're graded by a midterm, a final, and participation and a group project in your section. Going to lecture is neither mandatory or necessary. Her lectures can be quite boring but she knows her stuff and is very nice.

She says to buy the textbook: as a non-history major I didn't buy it and got an A. GO TO LECTURE! Posts slides but with no notes; all pictures so really go to class!! As long as you understand the overall themes you will do fine. Easy group project. Required section. Requires handwritten notes. Not super hard overall if you pay attention in class.

Digeser was good as explaining topics and cared about her students, but the class was difficult as there was nothing in the gradebook until after the final. Also, the essays in class can be challenging.

Despite the negative reviews, Professor Digeser is an incredibly intelligent and kind professor who wants you to learn. Grading expectations are clearly laid out, and she makes her lectures incredibly engaging. People are only complaining since she requires handwritten notes (which you can take into the midterm and final)

This is just the most boring and confusing class ive ever taken. She is not good at grounding you in history. If you zone off for a second you suddenly missed 100 years of history that you cannot find anywhere cause there is like 3 words of each slide. Terribly structured lectures. Possibly needs to be completely restructured. So so confusing.

Professor Digeser's class was a mixed bag - the content was interesting but the rigid structure and heavy workload made it a slog. Luckily, unstuck ai and ChatGPT helped me stay on top of the readings and essays.
