Prof Garratt is truly an asset to UCSB. Go to lecture, as he discusses many thought provoking real world examples about Econ. I attended his office hours very frequently as they always proved to be helpful when I was struggling with practice exam questions. He definitely is one of my favorite profs here and I learned a lot while in his class

You can see that this professor really enjoys teaching his students the material, he's easygoing person who loves to see participation in the class. Econ itself can be tricky but reviewing material in the online textbook which has similar questions to the exams helps.

By far one of my favorite professors, he is a great lecture, good person, and on top of the he made the class really easy. Would highly recommend. Take Econ 1 even if you arent going to major in Econ as this class is interesting and easy

Garratt is a great professor. His lectures are very clear and straightforward, so as his tests, which are probably 80% identical to the past tests he posted. Make sure you read the textbook to understand the lecture because the slides could be a little vague. Other than than, easy A if you put in some effort.

Great lectures, but his tests are INSANE. First quiz was easy but I had to make a 16(!) page reviewer for the second quiz, and there are 3 quizzes and a Final. Too much material is covered and he puts questions about minute details from the book that don't add any value to the main concept, just for random trick questions. DON'T TAKE 135 W/ HIM!

Rod was a great professor, he made a difficult class easier to understand. Attendance is mandatory if you want the iclicker points, and every point helps with the difficult curve set by the department. Definitely do all the practice past exams.

It was not as tough as the grading system seemed to be. The icklicker questions were way different than the exams'. His tests were not difficult as long as you did his posted past exams. The problems on the quizzes almost all came from those past exams but with different numbers. You MUST understand the concepts thoroughly!

He's a great guy but a mediocre professor, he just reads off the powerpoints. It's easy to pass but very hard to get an A. Stay on top of your readings and work with your classmates on the homework. iClicker points too so you can't skip class even though there's no reason to go, he posts lectures online. The hardest part is beating the curve.

He's fine. The Only problem is that too many people taking the class and you need to really beat all to get a good grade.

He was a great professor, I just found out that Econ is not my best subject and that's the reason I didn't pass.

Professor Garratt is a really nice guy. His ppt is always clear. Lectures are not heavy at all but you need to do the reading. Midterms are really easy and final is kinda hard. Make sure to do practice tests. I totally messed up the first quiz but did well on others and got an A- so if you work hard and understand concepts you will pass easily.

Professor Garratt is a great lecturer who can keep the dry material of Econ 1 interesting. He does move through the material quickly, though, so definitely read the assigned chapters beforehand. While the curve is tough, CLAS helps and the class is a very P/NP. Almost everyone passes, but study hard early on to stay in a position to get an A.
