I loved Professor Walker. Her taste in documentaries is so good and she was always a helpful resource as long as you reached out. She's a conversationalist and as long as you share your ideas she'll take a liking towards you. We had discussion posts and a term paper but she sets up an office hours meeting with every student for it, recommend her.
One of the more interesting film classes I've taken, and w/ an especially passionate professor.
Professor Walker really rubs a lot of people the wrong way. She skirts over anything race related, and relies on students to unpack racial discourse. Makes lots of weird comments like "wow blue collar work in this movie was so well done, we don't really see that in our day to day lives." Obvious favoritism, doesn't respond to student input equally.
Professor Walker is one of the sweetest professors I have had the pleasure of meeting. She really cares for her students and wants them to succeed. NOT a hard class whatsoever. Just do the readings, at least most of the time and show up to class and you will do fine. I would recommend to do the suggested reading anyways. Stuff is interesting.
Professor Walker is one of the best in the department! She is a sweetheart and extremely helpful! She is very knowledgeable yet open to discussion. She is my favorite at UCSB. I took Environmental Film and Documentary with her. I don't know how anyone doesn't pass. If you do the work and watch the films you're fine. Her classes are eye opening!
She's friendly but the class is boring to start with and she doesn't help at all. There's tons of readings and really long films. It is important to take notes but the way she lectures the class will leave u wondering the entire time if it's relevant or not and she can talk the entire 3 hours about things u don't need. i wouldn't take her again!!!!
