He is a really great and interesting guy but his lectures or so dry. He will go on multiple tangents that do not relate to class material at all. But you must attend because he gives pop quizzes. The midterm and final are essays and you have one final essay that is 1800 words with multiple topics available. Its not hard if you read, but is boring.
I didn't like Kittler's lectures. They were unorganized and he was hard to understand with his accent. However, if you read the texts and understand the arguments that are spoken about in lecture you should get an easy A in the class.
He is a great professor. Knows a lot about everything. Super nice and helpful if you go to office hours. Lecture is a little boring but the readings are actually really interesting. Class is an easy A if you do the reading which is like 30 pages a week so not bad at all!
Extremely knowledgeable professor. The Lectures are much more fulfilling if you do the reading beforehand. Not a difficult class and barely any reading compared to most lit classes.
I usually fall asleep in lecture, but if you attend and listen, the midterm and final are really easy. The paper is fine. Everything depends on your TA. But Kittler hands you everything. Read before class. It's easier to understand. The readings are pretty interesting, too.
At first, I kept falling asleep in class. He seems very boring. However, the class itself is very easy and we only read 3 short stories for one quarter. Attending lecture and you'll know excatly what to write on the midterm and final. Do the readings before class. They are not long, but they make the lectures more interesting and easy to follow.
Extremely boring lectures with useless historical anecdotes taking up the majority of time are to be expected. Additionally, the guy is nearly possible to understand, so even if you do go to lecture you won't gain any insight into the material at all...stay away.
Stay away! His midterm and final are based on his lectures, which are largely incomprehensible, though the paper was fairly simple. Take this class with a different professor if you must take it.
He was too hard to understand; German.
So brilliant that he has no organizational skills! He loves comparative literature and it shows, but its hard to understand him through his accent. What he covers in class is helpful for the final if you can get from him what is important and what is just gabbing.
Brilliant scholar. A privilege to learn from him.
dull, difficult to understand...
by far the worst prof. I've had in my 3 years at UCSB. he makes his lectures up as he goes along, and takes up all the time he can by going off on tangents. we literally sit there and laugh at how horrible he is, how he doesn't seem to care at all, and how nobody in the class learns a single thing.
Brilliant scholar. Amazing mind. Wonderful hair.
Amazing professor. At first, you don't quite understand him or where he's going with all this. But as the weeks go on, you're just blown away by the implications of what he's teaching about language, the media, and the medium. So awesome. I HIGHLY recommend him.
This class was really hard. The reading was extremely complicated. The lectures were not very organized, since most of the time we were about two weeks behind. Maybe ok for grad students.
