Probably the most passionate professor I've had in a while. Wish she was a little clearer on certain topics in content analysis (finding your research question and literature review), but giving us a content analysis research project on a subject of our choice was really fun. Quizzes were a little tedious but read and you'll be fine.
I love Professor Tober!! I have her for Soc108C and Soc185C this quarter. She has made me never want to skip a class and I stay engaged through content heavy lectures because of the way she presents it! Her classes have truly reignited my passion for sociology and research Grading can be hard but if you study and attend class your fine.
Loved Tober! Material was not boring at all and I always found the lectures entertaining. I got an A in the class - it was quite easy, we had a good TA too. This was one of the only classes that I enjoyed the reading for!!!
Professor Tober made this class much easier to understand. We had 5 assignments total and a lot of time is giving to complete them, and we go over a lot of it in class and in section. Attendance is not mandatory but going to class would make it much easier. Shes the best!
Dr. Tober is absolutely the best! I transferred in as a SOC major and was hating the profs in the department. She turned things around for me. She's passionate about the field and her research. Attendance is taken every week, 1 fairly easy online reading quiz per week, and final is a research project which includes every other week assignments.
Class was fairly easy, if you memorize the key terms and concepts at the end of the chapters you will be fine. She's pretty nice and accommodating and it's clear she really loves the subject.
Heavy reading class. Weekly quizzes on the textbook material. Lecture material is different but important, too. iClicker for attendance. Sometimes a lecture can get boring because it feels like "common sense." TAs are nice, mine just summarized. One final small group project. The midterm and final were the same format, but not the easiest.
Dr. Tober is overall a good professor. She cares a lot about the subject. The content is simple, but she makes is slightly harder than it has to be. Work: Read 1 chapter per week (~40 pgs). Complete 1 quiz per week (~10 q's multi-choice). Midterm + Final = 50%. To succeed: Text-to-speech chapters. Memorize terms. Review quiz before midterm.
Definitely recommend if looking for an easy but fun GE. Subject matter was interesting and engaging but was very surface level as she covers a wide range of topics. Easy midterm and final worth 25% each. You'll be fine if you do the weekly readings and attend lecture. Textbook is $1 per chapter and she assigns a total of 9 chapters.
Tara is an amazing professor who cares deeply about her material. She is wonderful and keeps her lectures super engaging. The class doesnt have much work and is pretty easy overall. Definitely recommend taking this class.
The professor was animated during the lecture, especially for an 8 am. Attendence is taken with iclicker and will lower your grade ALOT if you skip. There are easy weekly quizzes, and as long as you complete the assigned readings and review before the in-person midterm and final, you will be fine.
Genuinely got cooked by something personal out of class and tried to explain and even emailed proof and my grade went from 89 to 73 because I forgot to iclicker. Why :( buns and she is rude
MY QUEEN. I love Dr. Tober and he lectures were awesome, especially for an 8am. Weekly readings and quizzes are a lot, but very manageable. Had a good TA which definitely helped. Good easy into/GE course. Super broad range of content covered which I found a lot of pretty interesting. Tests were not too bad at all.
Great professor, but way too much reading for an international student.
Professor Tober is relatable and respectable. Several rules apply to the two essays in the class, but they are very doable. No midterm, just a cumulative final exam with a detailed study guide provided weeks in advance. Group discussion and assignments are weekly with your table group about the assigned readings and due by the end of the class. :)
She is so fun and interesting to listen to even during my 8 am lecture. Make sure to pay attention to lectures because some of that info will end up in your midterm or final exam questions. If you do/skim over the reading and know the key terms you should be on track to get an A in this course.
Super kind and funny professor, very passionate and knows what she's talking about. Pretty easy class, just review the reading and don't forget to take reading quizzes every week. Other than that there's no homework.
easy, a few papers and midterm and final. if you pay attention in lecture and do the readings your good
I love Tara! SOC 146 Collective Memory was a great class and quite interesting. We haven't gotten our grades back yet, but I am projected to get an A. Easy, short readings. Group assignments at least once a week in class. 2 papers that were very manageable and an in-person final.
3rd time taking her. She's great! Sometimes she would have classwork to submit, but you should just attend class to receive credit. Quizzes were confusing sometimes, but overall was fine. Group project at the end of the year where we had to organize our own social movement and include class concepts. Def a more lenient and caring professor!
SOC1 with Dr. Tober is EXTREMELY easy. I skipped more than half of the lectures and got an A, because the lecture slides are posted online and are nearly identical to the textbook. On top of that, the content itself is not difficult at all, and mostly common sense. Dr. Tober's lectures were very easy to understand and very very slow paced.
TAKE SOC 1! I absolutely loved Dr. Tober's class. What I loved most about the class were her lectures. She knows her material so well -- I felt like I was watching a TedTalk. The assignments are straightforward. If you engage, it's absolutely achievable to get an A.
Tober wasn't horrible, but not the best. Lectures were sometimes interesting, but mainly just her rambling. Textbook reading ~40 pages per week and a quiz, midterm exam, paper, and a final. I studied pretty hard for the exams but she words things in a confusing manner. She also doesn't round grades
Pretty interesting lectures, easy to listen to, and the content's very easy to understand. Study lecture slides for the midterm and final. Chill class!
