Pretty bad lecturer and the slides he has posted are from previous years and don't always match up with what he covered in class. There are two midterms, lowest is dropped. Lowest homework is dropped. Midterms and the final were really easy though. Easy class but poor prof IMO.
His lectures were pretty scattered and not super worth going to. He also writes out a bunch of problems and concepts but his handwriting is almost completely illegible. I had to teach myself almost all of it but the TAs had very useful resources.
He wasn't the worst that's for sure. In fact his lectures were good for the first half of the course. His lectures at the very end were kind of all over the place. His tests were pretty fair, but he constantly didn't follow the lecture slides and was unclear about certain expectations. It's a test heavy class, but doable.
Stopped going to lecture after week 2 because I couldn't understand a word he said. Has a thick accent, mumbles, and his handwriting is illegible. The only good thing about this class was the TAs and the slides they posted bc all the slides from the prof were entirely unhelpful. Tests were super easy but you won't actually learn anything.
easy a, i've never seen easier math tests before
Honestly not too bad. His handwriting kind of sucks, but if you show up to every lecture you can get a pretty good idea of what's going on. Graded by 2 midterms (with one score dropped) and a final, which ended up being a copy paste of said midterms. Just show up to every lecture and it's a pretty easy class.
Bad handwriting and didnt test on a lot of ODE topics. MCQ only tests
Tests are all multiple choice because they don't want to hand grade anything. The final contained the exact same questions as the midterms, which does make them easier, but does not at all test actual knowledge.
I mean he's alright
Exams are challenging bc its all MCQs (10 for two midterms and 20 for final) and have lots of questions that need one page of scratch work to get the answer. The professor is nice but has a heavy accent and incomprehensible handwriting, so it's hard to follow during lectures, which means you have to put in a lot of work for this class to do well.
two midterms, one is dropped but answers only made available for midterm 2 and not 1. final is worth 50%. lectures are uploaded from around covid times so they're not the same as ones in class. not sure how i did in the class but before the final, had a ~85%. scared final dropped me down very low. you're going to have to teach yourself everything.
Drops the lowest hw, 2 midterms but lowest one dropped, but final was worth 50%. A little hard to understand the material without the TA's help. Have to do lots of studying on your own but 4B doesn't have hard topics so it is manageable. his uploaded lectures are not the exact same as the ones he goes over in class, they're just for reference.
took his 104A earlier so take this 104B again. getting a good grade is not easy when your TA is tough, but prof himself is not bad. hw is reasonable. if u skip his class, dont skip the review session. the grading policy is so nice. the "drop the lower mid score" literally saves my life. //will write another comment when i finish his 104c.
This professor is extremely straight-forward. The homework for his 104B class wasn't so bad either, especially if you work with your peers. His exams are awesome. He has a review lecture and goes over ALL possible questions he could ask you in the exam and goes over how to do them in detail. It seems pretty counter-intuitive, but I learned a lot.
He is a nice guy who is good at explaning concepts and giving examples. He writes his notes on the board and does not post anything on gauchospace. He requires us to register ourselves on wileyplus which costs me $120 for homework.
Professor Yang has been my only math professor at UCSB that I have consistently been able to follow, every lecture. He has a bit of an accent but, overall, his lectures are extremely clear and helpful. They apply directly to the homework and tests, and it is easy to succeed if you show up to every class.
Pretty hard to understand during lectures and re-writes book examples for lectures. Midterm was OK; however, the final was very difficult. Try to avoid him as he is a hard grader with no curves.
Midterm was easy, straight from the homework but the final was very hard. Section isn't mandatory but TA Peter is very nice and quizzes are easy so make sure to go for an easy full 10%. Weekly homework due on Wiley ($97) just go to Math Lab and ask for help or google the question. Btw, no curve.
Homework assignments are on wileyplus. Exams are tough. He said he would make the final easier than the midterm, but I'm unsure what his definition of easy is.
Midterm was trivial but heed this guy's warning about the final because it was downright insane. First final I've had where EVERYONE stayed the full 3 hrs. Horrific accent, no lie. And writes small so try to nab a seat in the front. Lectures are also very dry, but hes a nice dude.
Professor Yang was very clear in his explanations. Hes also very cute like 9/10 (^_^;) and he has neat handwriting. I believe that I could learn a lot of differential equations from him.
Thick accent, easy midterm, take CLAS instead of going to class. CLAS guy (Tyler) is super helpful.
His class is really easy, but he offers little to no help with homework and preparation for tests. Utilize CLAS, section, and Math Lab as much as possible, and it's an easy A.
Yang is really an easy going professor. The first midterm was super easy, he says the final is going to be harder but I am not too worried. We moved pretty slow and he even didn't have time to finish some topics. The homework is on wiley and it sucks. The textbook also sucks. Yang also has a thick accent that is hard to understand.
