LOTS OF READING. One midterm that consisted of 3 essays. One final that consisted of SIX essays. No papers. I mean its a semi-easy GE if you are fine with a B or C. To get an A you really need to do the reading. Overall subject matter was interesting. Section is mandatory, lecture isn't (no clicker) but you should still go.

Considering that this is a lower division GE course, there was an absurd amount of reading...at least 300 pages expected of you per week as if you didn't have any other classes. Essay midterm and final made sure that you did your reading. Lecture structure was poor and she was very difficult to understand with her thick accent. Don't recommend it.

Class has LOTS of reading for a lower division class. You have to actually go to class if you want to do well and not fall asleep. Although she does have a really fair curve. This requires you to know your stuff so you have to be prepared. Don't really have to read the books, but it is necessary if you want to do well to get an A.

No paper. 2 Midterms and a Final. GO TO LECTURES so you have less to read. First midterm, I did poorly because I skipped class a lot and didn't read. Second midterm and final, I did a lot better because I went to class and filled out the notes in her study guide book. I still hardly read. Just go to lectures! They aren't that boring.

Nice and helpful professor. Most of exams are featured on lecture, however some material are only found in readings and since exams are essay-form, it is difficult to write much without reading (which is plentiful). Lectures were mildly boring (powerpoints) as the only interaction was the occasional professor-student questions.

I learned a lot in this class. However, it required an absurd amount of reading. I would not have taken it if I had another class to take. She claims that it shouldn't be hard to get an A or B, but you really have to work for it.

Lectures are easy to follow and I highly suggest buying her study guide. Has all the outlines for lecture so all you have to do is fill in the info (also takes her midterm questions straight out of it!) Can skim the reading if you go to lecture but if not you should do it all (and there's a LOT) ...so go to lecture. Tests are curved

This was a fascinating class that looked at an entirely different aspect of American history. Professor Zhao's lectures are very easy to follow and the study guide is very well organized. She's extremely helpful and very nice. When no one did very well on the first midterm, she made the second one clearer and added a curve to the class.

Main reason the score was a 63 is b/c only 25% of the class comes to class. Though her accent is a little strong, when you get used to it you find she is very knowledgeable about the subject. if you come & take notes, you can just skim through the books because she outlines everything. She is very nice & helpful during office hours.

She's a very good professor and easy to follow. She's willing to help in office hours for papers, midterms study guides are posted online, and she's very clear on what she wants. Lots of reading, which is necessary because 1/3 of the midterm was based off of the reading. Highly recommended if you're interested in the subject matter, she's great.

Great class. Zhao is the most knowledgeable when it comes to Chinese American history. Always had tons of info and side stories to share. Clear and organized lectures, 2 midterms and a final. A very reasonable and fair grader. If you found the content of ASAM 1 interesting, this is definitely worth taking.

Very nice lady, but the class itself is fairly boring. It's a history class, so what can I say? Quite a bit of reading but they're not that bad. Very straight-forward material with very fair tests. If you can get Eva for a TA. She's really, really helpful and nice.

This class isn't too hard, but it's also not super easy. The professor is nice but make sure to write down everything she says in lecture, not just what she puts on her power point. There is a lot of reading but you only really have to read the 2 novels because everything in the text books she says in lecture. Overall the content was interesting.

Did not like the class at all because of the professor. The readings were very interesting but it was so hard to stay awake in class! I felt bad because it was required to go because she had "quizzes" so she could take attendance on them. But regardless, the material is interesting and I learned a lot.

here's the deal: lots of readings (4 books), quiz every lecture (twice a week), quiz in discussions based on readings; one paper; midterm and final are okay (essay responce) based on readings and lectures;; have to be interested in topic and be willing to stay awake :)

Lectures were boring, who wants to hear about pre 1965 asian history at 8am? The professor is nice but class could be more interesting. Tests were fair and reading material relatively interesting.

Readings were interesting. Either go to all lectures or do all the readings. Tests are really easy.

lectures are incredibly boring and essay tests are hard! i earnestly tried to stay awake in class the first few weeks, but after a while, i just couldn't do it, which is just sad. i would strongly recommend NOT taking this class. it is hell. way too much reading and work for what it's worth! avoid!

This prof. is soooo boring, but you don't even really have to read any of the book to get a good grade. Tests are easy.
