Clearly a passionate professor, but severely lacked work ethic. I loved his passion which is the reason he is rated a 2 and not a 1, and his lecture slides were cool, but since it was his first time teaching the course he made the Midterm unreasonably difficult, and the final was unreasonably easy. I got through the class without reading barely

Lots of reading about 1 book/week. Lectures do not directly explain the readings, they instead give you real life examples, without explicitly stating it—if you dont read you wont do well. Not too harsh with grades, participation is a decent %. If you dont want to read in full extract key theories from books and really pay attention to lectures

Professor Parker is a tough teacher, but his tactic is to scare the students to make sure they put in the effort. There were a ton of curve balls in this class, but I learned a lot. If you want a challenge and are passionate about learning about the social movements that affect our society, then he is the guy.

The most ridiculous course I have ever taken. content is not difficult, but the way of teaching is not objective as an introductory course, he set the entire syllabus to be race focused while ignoring all other aspects. the way of teaching that topic is also biased without an objective presentation of both sides. grading system is not specified.

This was his first time teaching the class this way, so everything he was doing was new. But still this is no excuse to show up, on average, 10 minutes late to every lecture you are presenting. The midterm HARD, the final EASY, so clearly not much thought was put into it. The teacher is passionate about his subject which I personally respected.

I've taken multiple classes with Professor Parker, and as someone who studies political science for the love of the game, you will learn so much more from his classes than most other professors. He can be intimidating initially, but if you put in ANY effort, he's a great guy and super insightful. Take his classes, and you'll see for yourself.

Very intimidating at first- but a knowledgeable professor with interesting course material analyzing American history through a race lens. The grade is just the midterm/final/section participation but neither are very difficult. No writing, just about 40 pages of reading a week. You don't have to go to lectures as long as you read.

Professor Parker did not communicate well with TAs and grade was made up entirely of tests. Homework consisted of long readings every night and lectures could be boring.

I give my professors a lot of grace because I understand their work is difficult, but Professor Parker was by far the worst professor I've ever taken at ANY COLLEGE. He is passive-aggressive, changed the syllabus in week 9, and dropped half the class to a W due to unexpected participation grading. DO NOT TAKE HIM! He wants to see students fail.

You will need to actively participate in his classes to be on his good side. You will need to attend the sections to be fully caught up on course material. You will need to be ready to defend your opinions in class. If you do not like this, then do not take his courses. If you like challenges, then take his courses.

Do not take any classes with Parker. He doesn't stick to a syllabus and it will ruin your grade.

RUDE is a very disrespectful professor. Wants to see his students fail. Don't bother wasting your money on taking this class, he comes late or cancels the class. His slides are a bunch of random things, and the overall lecture is him venting about his life and his boring opinions. Changed the format of the final last minute because he wanted to.

This class has been a profound disappointment. He has a consistent lack of professionalism and respect towards students. The professor's habitual tardiness and apparent pride in lowering students' grades not only make this class hard but makes me want to drop. He also makes Passive-aggressive remarks towards students.

This professor is the worst at UCSB. Changed the format of the final last minute just to make it harder on students. Rude, opinionated, and unprofessional, participation is his class matters A LOT but doesn't make you feel comfortable to participate in his lectures...Doesn't post slides, doesn't have an email, and doesn't respond to It. always late

Parker is the worst professor ive had in my 4 years at UCSB. He changed the entire syllabus and grading system in week 9 intentionally lowering everyones grade.

Very knowledgeable and passionate about the material but is not cut out to be a professor. He is very condescending, rude, inaccessible to students, usually late to class, and expects things from students that were never made clear setting up the majority of the class to do poorly. Would avoid taking another class with him.

Changed the syllabus last minute cause he "felt like it"... also tends to get aggravated in class over certain topics. There should be a level of professionalism when it comes to teaching, he demands punctuality from students but often arrives late. Also finishes super early. And horrible lecture slides that are 6-8 years old.

One of the most unorganized and unintuitive classes I have ever taken. Had to read nearly a book a week with the professor often changing the text needed to read within 2 days of class. No written syllabus or clear grading outline. Changed format of the final at the last minute. Very passionate about the subject but cared little about his students.

Parker's class was disorganized; he was usually late, disrespectful to students, and the material was outdated; most of it was information I learned in high school. This class had about 150 pages of reading per week, which was hard to keep up with. Section was the only thing that got me through this course.

Professor Parker is intelligent and extremely knowledgeable, but his teaching style is lazy, unprofessional, and rude. He confesses himself that he hasn't updated his slides in years. While the subjects of his classes are potentially uncomfortable in nature, he unnecessarily targets students in a derogatory manner. Wouldn't recommend:(
