His lectures were a bit dry at times. I also felt that he spent just a little too much time reviewing, but overall it was interesting. I am probably one of the few people that found the reader to be fascinating as well. I loved this class.
Roberts is amazing! I know that most people are doing decent without attending lectures, but I definitely recommend it. He's approachable and willingly admits when he doesn't know information. He provides study guides for both the midterm and final. Very fair grader! Amazing class!
His class is interesting but kind of boring. He is a really nice guy and cares about the things he teaches. One Midterm 2 papers and 1 final, its pretty fair grading
Overall it was a pretty easy class. One midterm, he gives out a study guide that is exactly like the actual test, two papers and a final that is a little bit harder than the midterm. It's not your ordinary history class though, so be prepared to analyze and hypothesize.
made the material interesting.... not a hard class
I resent any one who would say that Roberts' class is not good. It was such an amazing, interesting, and challenging class! He's so passionate about Japanese history! And he's just so freaking cool: he's the only professor I know of that will show up to every class with pink converse. I would definitely recommend the class to any one.
if you like professors that ask extremely vague questions that have various possible answers but marks you wrong on your valid answer because it wasnt the answer he was looking for in particularly, then by all means choose him to be your professor. thats all i have to say.
This class is extremely interesting and Roberts really cares about what he's teaching about. He also is extremely helpful if you need any help w/ your papers he's always willing to give feedback. I recommend this class, not to hard as long as you do your reading, and interesting as hell! Loves this course, I had Ziomek as a TA and she's AMAZING
His Japanese history courses, both lower and upper division, are immensely interesting if you are into Japanese history. Definatly take his Edo Era course, as it is the most underrated history course in the department.
I thought the class would be interesting....it was boring. section was boring. Papers weren't that bad. He gives out study guides for exams that are pretty much identical tothe test so make sure u do them. if you're interested in subject and pay attention/read material you should be fine.....if you dont then you might struggle.i hated this class
Very nice guy. You will dive very deep into Jap Hist and it might be hard to keep up. Midterm and final are not bad, but lectures are confusing.
Nice guy and helpful. Only problem is the subject is really specific. If your not a Jap His major, don't take this class.
He is way to into Japanese history, there is to much to grasp in the short amount of time that you have
great class. helpful ta, 2 essays 1 midterm and a final. easy grader
smaller class- typical history course, fun art slides in class, but Roberts can mumble.
