Useless class, you could teach yourself this easily, don't take it.

Professor Mehta lacks in the skill to summarize topics in a cumulative way that promotes learning, he goes off topic a lot or strays into minor concepts that confuses you, making it harder for you to learn.

The nicest and most accommodating professor at UCSB. He is trying to make literally everyone understand the stuff in the course. The only thing you can complain about is he has a bad timing/pace for the course, but that's only because he is trying to let everyone know what he means..But still, he is the best prof I've ever had for over 3 years!

130 was one of the best classes I've taken at UCSB so far. The structure of the class was immersive and helpful in terms of learning material. I found the content interesting but I understand how this class is not everyone's cup of tea. Heavy emphasis on going to office hours and participating. This prof actually cares about his students!

Mehta was the most challenging prof I've taken, but also one of my favorites. He was passionate, helpful, really cared about each individual student, even met with me just to discuss career goals. Exams were very difficult and included small details from lecture. Weekly news quizzes were hard too but beneficial as a global studies major.

I took this class not knowing anything about economics and it was definitely not easy. Mehta is a good teacher and knows what he is talking about, but you should try to skip as little class as possible because exam questions can get pretty specific and the concepts are tricky sometimes. Amy was the TA and she's awesome!

Pointless course, go take intro to macro econ instead. If you actually want to learn about global economy and development IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES wait for some1 else to teach it. lots of time wasted on graphs, hw, excel work, readings not meant for those who have never done formal econ. Global studies needs to reassess how this class is taught!!!

Mehta is an excellent professor! His class is a little rough but if you're expecting an easy A... Idk what you're doing here. Professor Mehta is pretty straight forward with his course material. Make sure to do the readings, keep up with current events in the news, and for hw (since its graded on how you did) go to office hours. Overall great class

Goes over lecture time and a little disorganized, but overall very knowledgeable and genuinely wants you to learn/understand the concepts he's teaching. Definitely recommend going to his and TA office hours. One of the more difficult classes I took and going to office hours was really beneficial. He definitely makes you work for a good grade.

SO SO grood, very practical class. Gives you good basis for economic theory and the ability to create your own opinions on global issues.

Global Studies students on any UC campus will be hard pressed to find a professor who 1) has first hand, experiential, and academic knowledge about the developing world, 2) is more concerned with facts and facts' consequences than Marxist narratives, and 3) genuinely cares for their students. Mehta is the exception; the best prof I've had at any UC

Mehta is a kind, caring professor that teaches a very difficult subject and morphs it into something accessible to anyone that cares enough to learn. He offers a generous curve at the end, but the course is NOT easy. Everyone should take an economics course and this should be it. He will certainly change your worldview or at least challenge it.

Professor Mehta is the best professor I have had at UCSB thus far. His number one priority is having students understand and master the material. If you are genuinely interested in the topic and don't mind putting in a few extra hours a week to go to office hours and fully comprehend the readings , I promise you will not regret it.

Patronizing and wants you to jump through hoops. Makes things way harder than they need to be just to feel like he's teaching a hard subject. It's easy math and material, but he refuses to allow for laptop notes, calculators, or anything that would make the class simpler for people who clearly don't like math. Wouldn't take this if not required.

Prof. Mehta is really amazing. Every time I went to his lecture, feeling enlightened. You will do fine if you pay attention to his lectures.

He's incredible. If you are looking for an easy A, you shouldn't be in college and you certainly don't belong at a UC school. This is the most useful class you will ever take in this department. Be sure to take advantage of office hours and turn in all your homework. So much to learn from this professor and this subject!

Professor Mehta is very clear and easy to follow, and he gives good feedback to students and make sure everyone is on board before moving on. The course (GLOBL 123) is however extremely broad, and it seems to touch on way to many topics superficially rather than going in-depth on the issues. Homework every week, but fairly easy.

Great professor. His lectures are always clear and the majority of them are pretty interesting. He simplifies things perfectly in a way that non-econ people can understand. His exams are a little on the hard side and he does assign a lot of reading. 2 midterms, 1 final, 8 homework assignments (lowest grade dropped), and section attendance.

Pro: Solid public speaker- clear, engaging, uses examples Cons: Always Late! Says he's not biased but can't separate his own opinions from facts; omits histories and data to support his side; when teaching left theory, mocks ituses scare quotes; thinks he knows what's best for "the poor;" complains about global department almost every lecture

Absolutely wonderful professor, very knowledgeable! You learn so much from every lecture. Class is not easy, with challenging midterms and a cumulative final, but very worth it! Devote your time and interest and this will be one of the best, most useful classes you can take.

He's one of my favorite professor in UCSB. I was trying really hard to avoid him at first due to his 1.8 easiness rating, turns out he's amazing. Don't hesitate to ask him questions, he's always there to help you. He also provides spare copies of textbook for students,be sure to attend first several classes to get one.

Aashish has done a great job with this course in terms of challenging students, just make sure you have the TIME to devote to this course. It was one of my favorite classes but I was traveling a lot & didnt truly take full advantage of this course. Mehta is highly knowledgeable & very realistic. One of the best professors in the major.

Very helpful professor. He's an expert in his field, and the class is definitely worth your time. As long as you keep up with the readings, do the homework, and study the midterm review sheets, you'll be fine. Tests are heavily based on reading + lectures. People who say his class is hard have clearly never taken a real Economics class at UCSB. smh
