Super accommodating prof! Her class has lots of assignments but they are not worth a lot of points. That means that if you miss a few, you won't bomb the class. Also, she has a 10 point freebie, no questions asked. Fair, clear, and very professional!

She teaches a hybrid style class with Tuesday asynchronous lectures and Thursday in person class. Her in person lectures are very clear and interesting. I am not sure if I like the discussion activities in class as it depends on the group you are sitting with. The quizzes are hard as they cover different types of material.

Saleem is a well spoken intellectual, making her a fun professor to learn from. Yet, depending on what TA you get, the grading can be detailed and harsh. If a reading guide is a sentence too long or not reworded the exact way they think is correct - they will mark you wrong. Be detailed and summarize in your own words. The quizzes can be tricky.

Very interesting class! Her grading system gives you so much flexibility with missing classes or quizzes and there is no final, midterm, or essay! The grading basically consists of quizzes, small assignments, and 2 projects.

Class structure is clear and concise. No papers. 2 lectures per week (one in person) w/ weekly online quizzes and reading guides. 2 projects where you apply concepts to media examples. Attendance is optional but she gives out discussion points that can only be earned during in-person lecture. Extremely fair class and easy A if you do the work.

The content was a little dull but super doable. Weekly reading guides and discussion questions for homework, and a couple of group assignments.

The entire grade was compromised of weekly quizzes, weekly reading guides and a weekly group discussion. The class material was overall interesting. On Tuesdays we had an asynchronous lecture posted online and then on Thursday a more in depth discussion about the material.

Took her CommW113 class and it was great. Very few Comm profs at UCSB know how to teach an online class well and she is one of the good ones. Pros: very organized, flexible, provides handouts for her slides, caring about accessibility needs. Cons: Lots of low stake assignments every week. Apply it assignments are hard

Easy class as long as you turn in all the assignments. Really apprieciated the hybrid format.

Grading criteria is very clear, with a gamification style structure of the class, lots of diff assignments and ways to earn points. But I found this structure wasn't for me, it's so much busy work and it's easy to forget assignments, she has built-in lee-way so NOT flexible with due dates. Theories are also very redundant from other comm classes.

One of best lecturers I have had. Clear, concise, and gives great examples. She is very upfront about the structure of the class and the grading criteria. It uses a gamification model so you can pick and choose the assignments you want to complete. No exams but lots of assignments for fewer points. It's good for me because exams give me anxiety.

Very straightforward class with 10 free-bee points meaning you can miss a quiz entirely and still be in the running for an A+. Not the most interesting in person lectures since they repeat exactly what the asych online lectures say, but class is where you earn random discussion points so can be useful. Easy class just has some busy work.

The class is based on weekly assignments, such as a reading guide and short, 15-minute weekly quizzes. All of the information and answers are found in the textbook. She is so kind, a great lecturer, provided awesome examples, and overall made class discussion very interesting.

She has you doing a lot of work per week and it is all like out of 5 points so although she gives like 10 or more points of leeway at the end of the quarter it is easy to miss a lot of points so beware but it is not the hardest its just like a lot of busy work. If you find a fun group it is fun but you don't need groups

Professor Saleem is awesome! One lecture a week, a hybrid class format where attendance is not mandatory. No exams or essays, just weekly discussion posts, a quiz, and a reading guide that can be done at your own pace. She is super flexible and kind and seems to genuinely care about the needs of students.

I love this class! The content is super interesting and Professor Saleem applies a lot of the material into real-life examples and studies. She's SO organized and her lectures are amazing. During the quarter, she sent out 2 surveys that asked for our preferences and she actually used our answers to make changes to the class. Definitely recommend!
