Professor Park is a great professor. There's definitely a lot of reading but it's all pretty interesting. I'd highly recommend taking this class.
Very fun class! Professor Park is an amazing professor. He knows his stuff. Readings can be long, but it is a must read if you want to pass the class with a good grade. Sections are really helpful. A textbook is not required, which is great because it saves you money. By far, one of the best class I have taken.
Attendance isn't required, which is great. READINGS and extensive and tedious. Usually quite interesting. I left all of them until a day or two before the exams and did well on them. But i definitely do not suggest doing that because the readings are TEDIOUS AND LONG. no textbook, just printed readings. READ READ READ READ. Thats all i have to say
Cool guy, but lecture is pretty unnecessary seeing that 2 midterms and final are completely based on readings. Hard grader, but if you do all the readings it's not too bad. But the readings are looong and can be very boring. Changed to pass no pass because didn't do all the readings for the 2nd midterm. Midterms/final are all essays
loved my classes with him. very intelligent and office hours really help to drive at what is important in class. great professor! DO the readings!
Professor Park is extremely nice and makes lectures both worth listening to plus he is always open to help during his office hours. All the readings were very tedious and sometimes repetitive, but they were all online. Although the class was boring, Prof. Park knows what he is talking about.
Class is interesting. He is very clear with his lecture and good organization. May be a little intimidating to talk to him, but he makes class easier. Doesn't take attendence. All his readings were online. And his tests weren't too bad. Would take him again.
Honestly I really enjoyed this class, Park is a great professor! He knows what hes talking about and hes very clear. If you read the readers and everything before he lectures on that topic, it'll be really helpful. He posts up 5 possible topic questions a week before the test, study those questions, one of them will show up, 2 midterms, 1 final
Had Park for AsAm2, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of college. Went into it with minor interest and he made it applicable to my life, thus making the class extremely interesting. Though the reading is overwhelming at times, it helps out a lot when trying to understand the overall message. Amazing TEACHER and very helpful.
Great class, Park is a great lecturer and continuely made the class interesting. Quite a bit of reading, but it really helps if you comprehend it for the midterms and final.
Prof Park is funny, and his lectures are incredibly interesting. I thought this was going to be a boring Asian studies class, but it is mostly about immigration, and thus we end up talking about Latin Americans most of the time. He was very accessible, don't be afraid to approach him in office hours anyway. 2 in class essays, 3 essays for the final
he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, but the class is a bit tedious. there is SO SO SO much reading, and the exams are one essay question, except the final (it's three essays). i didn't have much interest in the class, but it was interesting the first few weeks.
Jaded professor, entertaining but really strict about grading. Be careful when taking this class; no matter how much you study, it doesn't guarantee you a good grade.
Great professor, knows what he's about. However, definitely not a class to take with a large number of people. Grading becomes ludicrous, and the TAs are not very helpful in telling you how to study for the exam.
Prior to taking this class, I had little interest. He actually made a really boring topic (Asian migration) surprisingly really interesting. He assigns A LOT of reading, but you just need to skim and wiki everything and pay attention to class. His practice midterm/final questions are real close to the actual, so pay attention to them.
Took this class over the summer- was interesting in a smaller class setting. Park is very friendly and encourages you to question trends in immigration today. he ASSIGNS a lot of reading, but you really do not have to read it all. just skim the ones that he makes obvious. go to office hours, he'll remember your name- ask about his kids and dog!
Park is now one of my favorite professors bc of this class. He knows the material inside and out, is extremely friendly, funny, and helpful. Class isn't too hard- I hardly read but just went to a review session before the final and was completely fine. I was expecting this to be a painful requirement, but now would love to take more asam classes.
Amazing professor. Definitely one of my favorites. He's a bit quirky, but he knows the material inside and out. The readings are a bit dense, but he's always willing to go through them slowly with you should you visit him during office hours. The layout of the class isn't bad either, but it IS focused on writing, so don't expect to wing it easily.
This class was not that bad the reader is pretty thick and much of it is just filler. Definitely go to office hours it will help so much on midterm and final. Highly recommend this class
GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He remembered my name after the first visit. Talk about whatever. He's also a dean so he deeply cares about our issues. Oh, the class is good too. ;)
i want to piggyback on the last person's comment, John is very enthusiastic about the subject matter. I saw him walking in the street one time, i think.
Overall I was pleased with this class. Park is a fantastic lecturer-very enthusiastic and open to student opinions. The reading are the worst part, very extensive, very time consuming, and not always entirely necessary to know for the exams.
Easy class if you do the reading and come to lecture. Park is a great teacher that knows what he's doing. Perfectly integrates the reading and lectures. You must go to section, do the reading and attend lectures to get a good grade. You have to be able to critical think and read! Just a warning: A LOT of reading, you can skim it though.
The class is kinda hard, but not too bad if you go to every lecture and read the articles that relate to the lecture material. There is a lot you don't need to read (you'll see). He is very approachable at office hours and is good at clearing things up when readings/lectures get confusing. He is not bad. This was actually a very interesting class.
