I had Dr. Albada for 10A and 10B, and she is by far the most organized professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. There were no surprises with grading, and I appreciated how many things contributed to my grade. She won't take late work, curve, or give extra credit, but with a reasonable amount of work an A is very attainable.
Wanted to like this class, but there is a participation requirement that makes you ask questions/raise your hand in class basically every class period to not get penalized (kind of unfair). Attendance is "mandatory" but it is not taken. Exams graded a bit harshly IMO but other assignments offset it.
I really enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Albada, she was a great person. The class is pretty simple, just make sure to stay on top of your work. 2 take home exams and one final project at the end of the quarter, as well as a couple of group assignments. She is super sweet and is willing to explain any little question you may have. 100% recommend
I learned more stats from Albada's 10b course than I ever did in my regular PSTAT classes. She is an amazing lecturer and has incredible way of breaking stats down, making it digestible. Her slides are so nicely detailed and clear. You will do well and learn so much from her!
Had Albada for 10A/10B and she still stands as one of the most organized and consistent UCSB professors I've ever met. I barely had to study for 10B to pass any of the assigned quizzes, and a majority of the work I put toward 10B outside of lecture was just spent on the weekly assignments. If you can take the 10-series with her, do it! No regrets.
I had Dr. Albada for 10A and 10B, enjoyed both although 10B was harder just because the material was less familiar. She is genuinely the most organized prof I've ever had, and a pretty compelling lecturer too. I hope to take her upper div classes next year!
I took her for 10A and 10B. Shes great and really clearly explains the material. Her attendance policy changed from 10A to 10B, she used to use eye clicker and now she has group in class assignments due once a week. Overall the conceptual stuff from 10B can be difficult to understand at first but just reach out to her.
Had Albada for 10A and 10B and loved her for both. Clear lectures, well-structured class. Material isn't easy, so attending lecture is important but not mandatory. Weekly assignments take up time but really help understanding of material. Quizzes every few weeks. No exams/no final. Super caring and kind prof - wish I could take more classes w her.
Prof Albada is one of the best professors Ive ever had. Her lectures are straightforward and the three quizzes (midterms) are really reasonable if you study. The assignments (50% of grade) are a LOT of work but as long as you check with your TA's and go to OH, you'll be fine. She makes this class SUPER do-able and you can get an A if you work hard!
If I don't attend office hours, I fall behind so much. Lectures are not recorded, and she says a lot of things that aren't written in the powerpoints that end up being on quizzes. I just wish that there was a way to practice for the quizzes more, she's mentioned that she prepares like 100 questions for each quiz. I like her but I struggle.
Dr. Albada is an amazing professor! She truly cares about her students and is super passionate about the subject. The quizzes are fine, as long as you study for them. She makes the research proposal super digestible and as long as you put in the work every week, you will have 85% of your proposal written by week 10. I would HIGHLY recommend her!!!
One of the most well-structured, expectations-clearly-outlined-to-students classes I have ever taken. She is VERY understanding toward students and genuinely wants each student to succeed. Attendance was done thru iClicker, quizzes were open note, and the final was a ~15 pg research proposal. Some lab work felt like busy work, however. Use your TA!
Albada is crystal clear about what you need to do to get the grade you want in this class. The group busywork in lab was annoying, but everything else was useful and worked towards a final research proposal. Not the most interesting class out there, but straightforward!
professor albada makes a difficult course manageable and even fun! her lectures are great and her course structure is not only very clear, but makes the terrifying research paper doable. the writing labs might seem like busy work, but they basically wrote my entire 15 page paper. she is very fair about her course and i cant wait to have her again!
this prof was hands down my favorite this quarter. she is great at explaining things backward/forward for all to understand. I am excited to have her again for 10b because she makes a great learning environment and clearly wants her students to succeed. highly recommend!
Great professor, really interesting class. Very clear grading criteria and helpful feedback. The writing labs were very necessary for the final project.
One of THE best professors at UCSB... Very few personal interactions with Dr. Albada (my own doing), but the few that I had, she was extremely personable. She provides a "life happens" class room environment with wiggle room in case something comes up during the quarter. I didn't do as well as I hoped, but its likely what I deserved. 100/10 prof
LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Albada. If you are given the option to take Albada, TAKE HER!!! She is by far the best professor I have had at UCSB thus far. She is an extremely kind, humble, caring, and patient professor and she truly cares for her students. She explains very well in lecture, makes everything clear, and structures her class in a very nice way.
this professor is in my top 3 at UCSB. i had a family situation going on when i was in her class and she was so supportive of me during that time. whenever I had a question, I could always ask her after class or over email. the class is definitely super heavy in terms of lecture, and the proposal is worth 30 percent, but she's a good prof!
This is a very well-designed course, and it's harder than PSY 10A. Your grade is based on assignments (take 3-5hrs to complete), quizzes (study in advance), participation, and lab section (1.5hrs). Lectures are conceptually heavy so you end up really understanding the material. Grading criteria is clear. I spent around 5-10 hrs/week on this course.
easy class, nice teacher, the group projects arent super big and can be completed in class, one large final presentation project thing, quizzes are pretty easy. would highly reccomend
Favorite instructor and course Ive had at UCSB! Her lectures are amazing and the course is really well-structured where every assignment seems really applicable and useful. Definitely would recommend!
Dr. Albada is nice and presents the material well. The quizzes are fair and pretty easy too. How difficult this class is depends on how nice of a grader your TA is. Mine was very particular and I had to spend multiple hours over multiple days on every assignment to get an A from him. The research proposal is daunting, but possible.
I couldn't imagine how Professor Albada could have done a better job with this course. Everything was straightforward; lectures weren't overexplained or off-topic. The quizzes were fair, and there wasn't any busy work. This class felt like it was designed to improve my research writing skills without being overly burdensome.
