What the heck. Super hard test with only 1-2 points of curve. It is my first time to do late drop because I cannot tolerate a B on my transcript :)
good lecturer, horrible test. I don't know why people keep saying easy A and straightforward. The test is wordrd weird and score is unexpeted low. The content is very easy, buf the test is definetly unfair. 25 out of 1000 students get 90+, and there is only little curve according to his email. very disappointed about test, I like the content tho.
Even is a great professor and lecturer that really cares about the students and their academic success. But it is really important to attend his lectures because his slides do not contain all the information needed for the exam so be prepared to take good notes. Also, make use of his office hours and review session before finals.
Even is one of the best professors at UCSB and one of two faculty in the EEMB department that is not research based, his primary focus is teaching not research which is rare. Grading is mostly based on tests which are challenging but fair. He uses everything from matching to hypothetical free response to test understanding rather than memorization
Professor Even is very clear in his lectures. He is one of the only professors I've had that seems like he really wants his students to understand the material that he covers. As long as you do the computation sets and memorize formulas you will do well on the exam.
Hes a really good professor, but its really easy to put EEMB on the back burner for MCDB. Stay on top of both, go to clas to prevent you from cramming. Tests should be straightforward as long as you stay on top of it. Iclickers arent graded and he reviews material in the first 15 min of lecture. Also tells you what to expect on the test
Even is a very straightforward lecturer, and I like how he reviews the previous lecture's concepts at the start of every lesson. He likes to do iClicker questions to help you review the computational problems. Gives lots of examples/experiments about the ecology concepts. Exams are not hard, very to the point.
A true gem of a professor. He made EEMB a breeze, and his lectures were the most entertaining I have seen at UCSB. Incredible professor who clearly takes time and effort into pushing his students in the right direction. His stories were memorable, and helps my recall of the class even after I no longer need most of the material.
Dr. Even is THE BEST PROFESSOR. He is extremely enthusiastic about his subject specialty and makes lectures a joy to come to. He sets you up for SUCCESS. Everything he puts in his powerpoints are crucial to know. I wish every professor was like him. Go to CLAS tutoring! *beware... do well on his portion of the class because Dr. Rice is a menace*
Love him. Such a great lecturer. Tests not that hard but you definitely need to study. Never used the textbook, just rewatched the lectures posted online and took notes.
An amazing professor. I found his lectures to be pretty interesting, and he definitely made the class more enjoyable. Make sure to pay attention during lecture and really understand how to apply the concepts you learn in class (specific examples, visualize the data).
This guy is a dope professor. Even though this class is a mandatory prereq, it could have been way worse if it was taught by anybody else. His lectures are super entertaining. Kind of a bummer he only teaches half of the class.
Even though I had to retake this class (note: please do NOT underestimate the class), I don't mind because Dr. Even is an amazing lecturer. He really likes to engage with the class and makes the topics more interesting. He tests from the slides but you really have to understand the concepts in order to know the examples.
awesome online class to take spring quarter. the recorded lectures are very interesting and he keeps it intriguing with cool examples. Readings for the quiz can be kind of long but the topics are all cool, you can look at them while taking the online quiz. Use the study guides/take notes and the tests will be very easy!
One of my favorite professors, the intro bio series was very challenging but the portion of it that he taught made me love EEMB. Gives very good real world examples and his midterm was very clear. Looooved this class. Go to lecture & take good notes and it's easy to succeed
I'm a stats major with interest in environmental studies and bio applications of stats, Took his online EEMB 22 class (EEMB W 22), wouldn't do it any other way. The readings are amazing and the discussion is thought provoking. Recorded lectures are great. He was really animated and helpful in office hours.
Professor Even has been one of my favorite teachers at UCSB. His lectures are amazing (and all are recorded). The test was hard, though.
Although this was not my favorite subject in the intro Bio series, Evens made this class a lot more interesting. His lectures weren't boring and he was one of my favorite professors so far!
Amazing professor, really cares about how he presents himself. He doesnt just read off of the lecture slides, he engages, and constantly reviews things before beginning the new lecture. Honestly considered switching to ecology just so I could have him as a professor again.
He made even the most boring material seem interesting. I would highly recommend going to lecture; he is very good at explaining things that may not be clear on the lecture slides. The book isn't necessary; everything you need to know is learned in lecture.
Even is one of the best lecturer's in the EEMB/MCDB departments. He makes seemingly dull subjects interesting, and is the most engaging lecturer I have had. Attendance is mandatory in his class as he explains most concepts verbally and does not write a lot on his slides that he tests on.
He makes lectures so enjoyable. He can be a little intimidating, but it just makes listening to lectures easier!
Wish he could teach every class, simply amazing professor.
Real cool guy, he delivers his material straight to the point, and constantly requires the class to repeat shout out what he just taught as he goes along. Attendance is important because all test material comes from there. Book is not necessary. Tests are multi choice and short response. Def recommend!
