I was already in love with aquatic biology and she further emphasized that love for it. She truly cares about her students and lessened the workload due to online school challenges. I loved her super cool videos and her lectures made my day. My favorite teacher at UCSB so far!

One of the best professors I've had for any of the intro bio series! She is so kind and helpful and makes sure that the lectures are super clear and to the point. Her lectures are informative and inspiring and she's super approachable and kind in office hours! You'll actually want to watch her lectures! I would love to take another class with her!

My favorite professor I have had at UCSB by far. On top of being immensely organized and providing amazing slides, she explains the information in a way that makes everything really easy to understand. The passion she has for the work she does is 100% reflected in her teaching and I cannot wait to take another class from her!

Prof. James is lowkey hot! Because of the coronavirus she went off syllabus lessening the workload on us. Her lectures are amazing and inspiring, makes you wanna just quit whatever ur doing for marine bio. She focuses on interesting concepts rather than just memorizing taxonomy. Super approachable in office hours gives great advice for a career. <3

she makes ecology extremely interesting and sends out cool videos to watch that go with her lectures, which she makes straightforward with helpful slides. she offers guidance with grad school and future pathways. she passes her passion for ecology onto her students. definitely the best eemb3 lecturer out of them all. her tests are far.

They changed the format of the bio labs, and I had hoped that they would be better, but in fact, they have become worse! The grading scales are harder, and the lab practicals are no easier than before. Unfortunately there's no way to avoid this class if you're a bio major, so good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor tbh.

Totally unorganized, making the material which was clear in lecture more confusing. Many of the questions she writes dont feel fair and her grading policy is rigid for a 1 unit class. If you every have her, Im sorry

The actual worst, she overcomplicates the lab practicals to the point where they're more difficult and time consuming than the actual classes. The lab manual is disorganized and barely corresponds to lectures anyways. Probably the worst person they could have chosen to organize the intro bio labs.

She has written down on the course policies that she gives makeup exams but she doesn't. Says you can contest your grade but when I complained about a grading mistake on my practical (and I'm 100% sure), the staff refused to fix it. Reuses questions she threw out other quarters because 1/2 students got another very close answer.

negligent, incompetent, disorganized, lazy

Several videos to watch in order to take a weekly quiz, reading the lab manual before lab, a ridiculous amount of questions in the manual that you need to answer, two practicals, and a fat research project without ANY guidance and sources that hardly make sense or cover necessary material. Good luck!

Trust me, too much work for 1 unit class. Lab manual is so unorganized

I'm going to come off as so extra but I swear, this is most disorganized class that I've ever taken w the most disorganized lab manual that I've ever read. The lab manual constantly has conflicting information in it, is written out of order, is so grammatically incorrect and vague, etc. yet we are graded on our knowledge of extremely specific info

Objectively graded class, no curve or very low curve. Make a good connection with your TA because they grade your paper that is worth about 20% of your grade. Do all the pre-labs and labs on time, these are the easy points. 1 unit class, but if you want to get a good grade, study hard for the practicals.

May be one of the most disorganized people for this job. She is in charge of coordinating the lectures and labs for intro bio classes and fails to do so well. The class is over complicated and the lab doesn't match the class at all. During my final she repeatedly screamed out errors she made on the final in a disruptive way. Very negative person.
