Do not cram the night before an exam! If you do the reading and homework ahead of time you will know the concepts and not even need to study. Chemistry is not memorization, it is applied. I loved Kunkel and her love for chemistry was awesome and inspiring.
I really dislike the class. She is about a week ahead of the syllabus schedule, rushing through lectures. The example problems she does in class are fairly simple, and the questions on the test are tough and tricky. Made me dislike Chem altogether.
Took her class for Chem 1C after taking Price for 1A-1B. She doesn't use power point lectures, strictly chalk board. This makes it hard to go back over lecture notes if you miss a class or just are a poor note taker. As with all the gen chem classes, you must read and workout problems in the book to pass. Final opinion? Choose another prof.
Such an amazing professor. She really cares about her students and wants them all to succeed. She made this class super easy if you study and go to lecture and her questions on exams are clear. She's always open to help and really cares about students!
I took for fall quarter. You don't need book, but 100% will have to go to lectures. She covers too much and goes too fast. Her tests and quizzes are extremely hard, and she doesn't curve. You have to study hardcore to get a B on a test tbh. She gives adventure problems, which are not fun. Great lectures, but if you want an easy A, not here.
I love Kunkel She is such an amazing professor. She really cares about each individual student and wants everyone to do well. As long as you go to class you will be fine. She is very approachable as well you can talk to her about Chemistry or just about life in general. Kunkel is also very hilarious. Use the textbook if you want to do amazing
Great prof now that I'm looking back. But I was a fool and never went to lecture and never studied (fall quarter freshman year). If you go the route I went you will at least get a C like I did. But HEED MY WORDS, get studying even like 20 minutes a day and you WILL get an A. Don't be a bad freshman like I was.
Kunkel is NOT a good teacher. She is confusing, annoying to listen to, and her exams are completely unfair. For Chem 1C she went WAY off of her notes and never even covered some of the concepts. She is the WORST chem professor I have EVER had. I wish I was not in her class right now.
Kunkel is very clear with her lectures. Explains concepts well and makes clear what will be on midterm and final. First midterm was very difficult but second one is much more doable. Had her for Chem 1A and struggled tremendously. This class is easier and much more interesting.
I took Kunkel for Chem1A and ES15. I love Kunkel- I love her dry humor. As clear as she presents the material, I'm an ES major and had a really hard time on her tests even though they were fair. I ended up with a C and am happy to have passed. Kunkel's tests are fair so is the curve, I just suck at chem. I'm glad I'm done w/ the chem requirement
She's very clear and overall a great professor. She has a great personality and keeps the class fun and focuses on big concepts. Her practice tests are also really helpful. Take Bryanna if you get the chance!
Kunkel is definitely the chem teacher you want! She is funny, organized, and clear in her lessons. Her tests are slightly long, but they are not made to trick or confuse you. Do the recommended problems and her reviews and you will do well! She is also very helpful in office hours.
The best gen chem professor I have ever had! Kunkel is awesome, nice, and extremely helpful! Her tests are straight forward and her lectures help you understand the material really well. You don't even need the book at all, just attend lecture. Loved everything about this class and this professor! Definitely recommend her! she cares about students!
Kunkle is a great professor and she definitely made class interesting. She seemed to really care that we understood the material. I really liked her lectures, but the tests were a bit hard at times, just pay attention in lecture and study hard for tests and you should be fine. Definitely recommend her overall!
I will start with the good. She has a good personality, she also explains some things very well. I do not particulary like the teaching style. She does give you tools to study for the tests, they do not seem to be enough. I spent hours going over the material and would feel ready for the test. However the tests are way harder than expected.
Take GenChem from her. I had Petra for 1A and liked Kunkel better. She explains better and writes on the board which is more effective than just clicking through a power point. Midterms are long, sorta tricky, but still fair. She is hilarious and very nice. I never read or did book problems, but you should. Replaces lowest quiz score with iclicker.
One of the better chemistry professors. Sometimes lectures can be slow but she still keeps class interesting. Do the book problems as much as she says to and you'll do awesome. I rarely read and just worked tons of problems and got an A. Definitely recommend taking Kunkel.
Great Professor! Keeps the class entertained during lecture with her sense of humor and her passion for chemistry. Clear and well structured lectures. Tests and exams are fair. Definitely recommend chem with her.
Professor Kunkel always kept class entertaining with her dry sense of humor and overt passion for chemistry. However, her exams were excessively lengthy and at times quite challenging.
She keeps class fairly entertaining and is pretty funny. Not sure why people are giving her a high easiness score. She curves the class so the average is a 75%; most classes tend to be curved to around 80%. Her tests and quizzes are fair though and have a pretty good mix of hard/easy questions.
Its a difficult class to begin with but she made it slightly interesting. Be able to do problem in under a min cause her midterms are lengthy. Sometimes messes up on questions during the test and will pretty much give you the point for it. I suggest you do the book problems it will help in being able to complete the midterms in time.
Overall a decent professor; tests aren't too hard but can be a bit lengthy. The final, however, was a bit more challenging. Tests aren't curved but the class is curved at the end of the quarter. On the plus side, she has a great sense of humor that'll definitely keep you from falling asleep in class.
Not the clearest or most informed chem professor out there, but her deadpan humor certainly helps keep the class engaged. Quizzes are easy while midterms are significantly more challenging. Overall a solid professor.
Longer than expected midterm but it was rather trivial. People should stop complaining -______________- All of the classes are graded similarly, it's dependent on how much time you put into it. Kunkel's monotone voice is so funny :).
