pretty hard grader, very long and dense readings and the lectures were kinda hard to follow takes attendance
Approachable, kind, and insightful professor. Readings and lectures for this course are thought-provoking. Grading might seem tough at first, but listening to him and asking questions will help you improve on each submission. Expectations for this course were very clear, and it has been one of my favorites at UCSB so far.
I don't recommend taking his classes. He graded so harshly without saying why and at the end of the quarter he made GS unavailable to us before he even finalized grades so idek what I got on my last two papers. Theres a million readings and theyre all over the place. The entire course itself wasn't focused enough he adds too much unrelated stuff
im trying so hard to like him hes nice but hes just a bad prof. goes on super long unrelated tangents and ends it with "whats my point? my point is" JUST GET TO THE POINT DAWG PLS grades everything late and hard and barely gives feedback. so much unnecessary reading he never even goes over. taking notes on his slides is impossible. very unorganized
Very caring prof and doesn't pack on extra coursework just because we're in an online format. His asynchronous lectures make difficult concepts very accessible and simple to understand, and I recommend going to office hours because he is very approachable.
Zulueta is honestly one of my favorite profs. He has been so helpful in understanding readings and concepts and is just an all around great guy. There are a lot of readings but its not too difficult to stay on top of it because they're really interesting! Highly recommend taking one of his classes
Dr Z truly cares about his students and their success. He is respectful and insightful; really a lovely person. The readings are interesting, but you don't have to do all of them (I focused on the ones he mentioned in class). Gives detailed study guides before exams. Didn't take attendance, but class helped me understand the more complex concepts.
Terrible. Literally after week 2, there is no new material for the course so he just repeats himself again and again and again. Boring in-class videos and all of the readings just end up saying the same things over. and over. and over. The midterm and final are in class essays that are graded exceptionally hard for no reason. Do not take as a GE.
Wasn't a hard class, and lecture was always engaging and interesting. Zulueta was nice/funny guy and very clear about what was expected of us. Midterm and final questions were provided in advance, and were tested in in-class essays. Most readings aren't necessary. Got a lil boring towards the end, but mostly because there wasn't much more to say.
Very nice guy and a good orator. Approaches sensitive topics without being a over politically correct wuss. Grades tough on your writing but I guarantee you'll be a better writer after. Do not, I repeat do not buy the textbook. Also its possible to not do most of the readings and still common sense your way thru the essays. I got an A.
Very nice approachable teacher. Always available after class if you have any questions and goes out of his way to make sure he remembers students. Course readings are easy. Grades hard on the first essay but only because he expects you to improve. overall, interesting and easy class.
Easy going and approachable teacher. A lot of class discussions. But his questions for essays/tests seem unorganized and messy. You try to answer them but you might end up in a bad grade with a "didn't follow directions" to his already difficult explanation on answering them. So its tricky. VERY hard grader. Counts attendance.
As long as you show up and try, you're fine. He is an incredible professor and genuinely has a lot of love for his students. Definitely take!
Zulueta is a nice guy, but this class was very mediocre. The class consists entirely of lectures, and the structure and organization of the class' content don't make sense. There are a lot of readings, but they're not required whatsoever. He encourages participation but rarely asks the class to do anything. 6 assignments total, and an easy final.
Zulueta disregarded a derogative comment on Black People in a Filipino American class. Furthermore his class structure might just be the worst thing to ever exist. It has already been about 4 weeks now and he still hasn't had a real lesson plan and he just tends to ask really surface level questions.
Best lecturer I've had here. Engaging. Weekly reflections and moderate amount of reading if you choose to do it. Not difficult. Rlly big focus on learning over a grade. Rewarding if you go to class. Like a more engaging history class w/o memorization. Super small class. You'll actually try in the class bc the prof is so sincere. take it!
Dr. Zulueta is such a sweetheart and genuinely cares about what he's teaching. He is always on top of responding to emails and concerns, and just wants you to succeed. There are weekly readings for the class but they're really not too hard and line up with his lecture material, so I recommend reading them.
Dr. Zulueta is very understanding and approachable outside of class, and the material covered in this course was interesting. However, I found the slides unhelpful when looking back and reviewing to write papers.
Zulueta is easily one of the worst professors I've ever had. His lectures lack content completely and fail to address the learning objectives with any detail or depth. The entire time he's talking he says nothing. All of the readings are long and very dense. Nothing gives enough info to be able to write the papers well. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
Very interesting content and he is a super sweet guy, I never went to office hours but he seemed very willing to help out and chat. I believe there was 2 essays that were pretty straightforward. Lots of reading, some films, TAs help digest this material well. I'd recommend him!
I really enjoyed the readings in the class, but the lectures were not helpful whatsoever. However I LOVED the TA for this class. The sections are pretty interactive, comfortable, and eyeopening.
He isn't the worst professor but it was hard to feel organized in this class. I honestly forgot that I was even enrolled in this class at times because he posts units and quizzes way later. Quizzes could be taken multiple times for the highest grade which was super nice. He's nice and seems to care about his students. Just felt disorganized.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. WASTE OF TIME. He is definitely one of the awful professors at UCSB. Took ASAM133 during the pandemic, an how he operates an online course was terrible at all. Boring lectures, delayed quizzes.
Class wasn't that bad. Lecture was super boring but he posts his slides and they're not super helpful for the tests anyway. The midterms and finals were pretty much just based on the reading, so if you do the study guide before you'll do well. There was a lot of reading and the tests were long but if you put in the work its an easy A
