Good lecturer, clear and to the point. Nice man, there if you need help. Exams are pretty much entirely free response and can be challenging , but if you know the material they are very fair.

He puts a lot of effort into his power points to make the class interesting. Lectures are not mandatory but are helpful and summarize the readings. There is 1 paper, 1 midterm, and 1 final. His podcasts, and readings are all online there is just a lot of them. Also, he put a downward curve on the midterm because the TA's didn't grade harshly enough

Great professor! Well structured lectures, followed clear line. Definitely go to lecture it helps a lot! Grading is entirely dependent on your TA. Fair exams, study the final and midterm review sheets and you're good. All in all interesting class

The professor goes at a nice speed (a little fast is you're writing, but nice if you're typing). The content was in-depth and interesting. He definitely specializes in China and uses his knowledge as best as he can. He's well-rounded with lots of information! Great class! Extremely enjoyable! Work hard and go to lecture--worth it!

He moves really fast on power points so bring laptop to get it all down. He does post podcasts from 2007 on gauchospace but still go to lecture bc he'll give midterm/final answers on certain days & won't post podcast. Lots of reading, get Jessica as a TA she assigns lots of work but it'll help you understand.

Interesting lectures that are well-coordinated with powerpoint. Knows his stuff and my TA was excellent. People thought the class was too hard but to succeed you just have to pay attention in lecture and study the study guides he gives students.

Not sure why he has such a high review. Definitely knows his stuff but has trouble teaching it at an appropriate depth for a survey class. I'm a third year History major and definitely find it more challenging than my upper divisions. Go to class and study his guides and you should pull through.

go to class, write creative essays and STUDY THE HELL OUT OF HIS FINAL REVIEW SHEET. then you'll do perfectly fine..

Great professor!! Prior to this class I hated history. there are weekly short essays but everything is straight forward. The test was a little difficult, but if you attend lecture and review a little, you will ace it!!

Awful. He talked at length about obscure theories (like game theory) that had noting to do with history. Please avoid.

Barbieri-Low knows his stuff, and knows how to teach roughly 10000 years of history. Great for GE credit. I also had a really helpful TA... make sure you go to office hours if you need help. Midterm and final weren't too bad (there's a study guide). One paper due after the midterm, but you have plenty of time to do it! All in all a great class =)

The truth, i wasn't a big history fan, but after taking his class, i feel in love with it. He has his way of explaining things to the point where you become interested and want to learn more. Those who said that the tests were hard, well, they really aren't so bad. He gives study guides, so you really just study that, and you'll pass the class.

This class is actually really interesting but the tests were hard and attendance is crucial otherwise you would have to listen to his lectures on his podcasts on your free time so go to class!

His lectures tend to be a little boring sometimes, but he posts them all online so that is really helpful. He is really into Chinese history.

His class is very interesting. I learned alot but the test are a bit hard but nothing that is not possible. The midterm consist of one essay question and a few short ID's. The final has two essays that cover the courses main topics which are major empire and religions and other short ID's. Professor Barberi-low is really good professor

Lectures were boring, he is rather monotone. However, he knows his stuff very well especially Chinese history. He places lecture audio up on Gauchospace which is nice if you can't wake up in the morning. Had an awesome TA who made this class a blast, material was relatively interesting as well. If you like history then you will do well.

Great teacher, but it wouldn't hurt to have afternoon lectures as opposed to morning ones

Incredibly boring lectures. He goes very briefly over all of the topics and expects you to go very in depth on the final. There is a ton of reading. He may be a decent teacher in other classes, but I definitely don't recommend this class.
