This class is really interesting, I'm really glad I took it. Professor Oaks is very easy to understand and answers any questions very clearly.
Very interesting, lots of reading.
The reading is physically impossible, don't ever sign up for this class
She's great! One of the best professors at UCSB in my opinion. Went into this class never having learned about feminism before, and now I'm a major! She presents the material in a really clear and structured way, while keeping an open forum for all respectful opinions, and truly addresses and recognizes input. The reading is also super interesting.
Laury is such an inspiration, especially if students are interested in the medical aspects of feminist studies and research. She's so approachable, and is a great listener!
Most of her lectures were interesting. Grades based on participation, midterm paper, research paper, and final paper but graded kind of hard.
great teacher....not too hard of a class. T.A.s grade papers a little bit too tough though. Easy midterm and final.
she is amazing. she teaches and tells very interesting stuff to studnets, but her exam and paper are hard.
lecture notes are not organized, very hard to pay attention in class. If you are not a womens studies major and looking for an elective, this class isn't the best choice.
A fabulous teacher!! One of the best that I had. The class is amazing and very interesting. She is very helpful during office hours and always willing to help!
Very helpful and easy going. Her lectures are completely organized and the class is enjoyable. Don't be afraid to approach her, she's really chill.
best teacher @ UCSB!
Great class! Very interesting, and Oaks offers a balanced perspective. She is a tough grader for papers. Highly reccommend this class!
Well organized, lectures with good powerpoint slides, followed her syllabus right on track. Class went on at a good speed. Good choice of reading materials (a reader and novels). 1 midterm (combi of short and long essays), 1 major paper and 1 final. 1 of the best lecturers I had! Very interesting!
Laury is wonderful; inspiring, helpful, compassionate and brilliant, too. Classes are structured creatively, reading is relevant and challenging. She's very helpful in and out of class.
Very supportive outside of class. Concerned with a lot of contemporary US and global women's issues. Really cool! I just still can't believe she's married.
