Professor was a fine. She gives awful, I mean AWFUL criticism of your work. As for WRIT107G, if you have an intense course load, DO NOT take this class. It has nothing to do with global careers. Assignments are hours and hours of writing papers papers (due the Sundays before midterms). Not difficult, but a ginormous slop-bucket of menial busywork.
Professor Coklin is so sweet and she is really fun to talk to. Her lectures and slides are a little unorganized but her Canvas module is super in depth. She is a tough grader for sure and really cares about being punctual.
Ljiljana is a great professor and makes the material accessible to non-writing majors. Weekly readings, responses, and three papers. I found that she graded quite leniently as long as you put in the effort. I really liked the readings and the course overall. A lot of opportunities to get help and advice on assignments. Would recommend.
I love this professor. She is interesting and engaging, she gives lots of good feedback on your work and cares a lot. Her energy is cool and calm and she also wears good outfits which is inconsequential but still great. Love her, love this course, highly recommend.
Unclear instructions on what was expected. Harsh grader. If you want a writing class to get A-2 out of the way and boost your GPA, this is not it. Not much learning, more-so building your portfolio if you wanted to do the professional writing minor. You never really knew what the grading would look like or how on or off track you were.
I love Professor Coklin. She is extremely sweet, approachable, and caring. She leaves solid feedback on every writing assignment and also gives you the opportunity to resubmit one assignment. The class material is extremely helpful as well. I would 100% recommend taking this class with Professor Coklin.
Coklin was very understanding and caring when it came to class. She met personally with students and helped me develop my writing skills. While the assignments can be a lot, they all benefited me and taught me new ways of writing. I would recommend taking this class because it will be worthwhile.
Wow. I've never had a professor like her. She made me fall in love with writing and our projects have a creative multimedia aspect to them. Definitely looking to explore more classes with her in the future. She always goes around to each individual student and asks about their project and if they need any help. She truly cares!!!
She's the BEST! Super nice and understanding if you have problems submitting on time, gives detailed feedback on every assignment and really tries to engage w students. Made the course very creative. the grade is four main assignments and a biweekly "journal" writing assignment, but honestly not too much work if you don't hate writing!
Prof. Coklin is a great professor and assigns interesting and thought-provoking projects. I took this class online and she handled the situation really well and was always available and transparent about expectations and assignments. There were four major assignments and she gives a timeline to get everything done. Great class for writers!
She is by far the best professor I have had at UCSB. Her teaching method is clear, direct, and to the point. Assigned readings are useful and have a connection to the writing assignments. All assignments build nicely off of each other in culmination to the final project. You will gain practical skills and feel accomplished!
Coklin is a very subjective grader, if she doesn't like your perspective she will give you a bad grade regardless of your writing. I wrote AMAZING papers and she gave them B's. If you take her make sure to suck up because she is biased af and not a true writing teacher. 4 hours reading a week, excessive for a writing class.
Professor Coklin is so sweet. She really wants students to success in her classes so she creates different activities to ease the workload and avoid procrastination. The course grade was evenly distributed. We had 2 papers and a final research paper. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss 3 or more, it's an automatic fail.
Ljiljana is very enthusiastic about Creative Nonfiction. Lots of carefully curated pieces to analyze throughout the quarter. The papers were completed with the help of several periodic assignments. Do the readings, participate in discussions, do the assignments and you will succeed. Enjoyable course, great prof.
As a film major, this class was terrible. Most times her opinions and reading of films was contentious with the way in which I (and other film majors) were taught to understand film analysis. If you're not a film major it's pretty basic, the only difficulty being the 5 papers you have to write. Otherwise, would not recommend but overall easy class.
First of all, I enjoy writing and consider myself a fairly good writer. If you don't like to write then I really don't know why you're taking a writing class. She graded papers fairly for the most part and tried to get to know each of her students. Trust your writing abilities but also be open to criticism
I really enjoyed taking 107G with Coklin. It was a great learning and writing experience. She structures the class in a way that is easy to follow. She makes it clear what she wants and gives really good feedback.
She is helpful in class, but a VERY picky grader. Get all of your assignments reviewed by her before turning them in. Awesome class overall.
harsh grader. doesn't really teach anything, just gives out assignments. only we do in class is have a class discussion or something which doesn't help with writing a research paper at all.
I received a lower grade than expected in the class and on the assignments (15pp paper) despite the enormous amount of time and effort I put into them. She had her own ideas for what she wanted me to write for my paper and was thereby biased against my work. Graded too harshly. Take English 10 instead, way less work and easier professors/TAs!!!!!!!
Prof Coklin was a pretty good professor. Sometimes she was hard to understand but was a pretty easy grader. Although the tasks she assigned seemed impossible at first (15 page paper), it was way easier than I thought it would be. With all the stuff she has you do before turning it in, the paper practically writes itself.
She was a bit hard to follow, but as she explains more, you slowly get the point. Her grading is tough... I worked so hard writing up papers but only averaged B/B+... However, she is willing to help.
I found this teacher was a bit hard to follow at first and I had difficulty interpreting what was expected, but she takes the time to talk to you and is very helpful when approached. I gained an appreciation of writing for film, and I got a better grade than I thought I would. Don't be lazy though. Very cute when she smiles!
if you try, she is pretty easy. she likes hard-workers, but she's also pretty laid back
