i wish she taught all my classes. she was amazing and made it clear she wanted each and every one of us to succeed. i loved the way she organized the course so carefully.
Genuinely amazing and healed my trauma from the bio series. Noncumulative exams with cheat sheet (use it! so helpful), and questions are not trying to trick you. Also gave an easy extra credit point. Has lots of opportunities for studying/getting help, she wants you to succeed!
Dr. Scudder is the best! Three exams which are not cumulative with double sided cheat sheets able to be used on the exams. ULAs for the course with tutoring sessions to help you succeed.
Scudder is an amazing professor! Her lectures are very detailed and provides lots of examples. The exams weren't too bad and they're only weighted 15% each since you have a 8-10 pg research proposal paper that is 30% of your grade. You work on your paper and get feedback throughout the entire course during your lab sections so don't worry about it!
Absolutely amazing. I wish I could take all my courses under Prof Scudder. She is so organized and loves what she teaches. Go to lecture, listen, study some and you'll do great!
I loved Dr. Scudder with a passion, not joking. She is great at explaining difficult topics and making them so simple. Also her 2sided papers she allows during the exam are life savers, great for studying too. You can copy down anything you'd like on there as long as it fits! She is by far the best professor i've had at UCSB, definitely recommend.
She was the best professor I had thus far. She makes really hard concepts super easy to understand. If you show up to class and are engaged, you will definitely do well. She sets the class up for success, and her tests are super fair. She was really amazing, and I would love to take another one of her classes.
A truly wonderful professor that created an exceptional class! Lectures were a little fast but they were recorded. The ULAs were a perfect addition that really got me involved in the class. Dr. Scudder is a gem-- her passion for biopsych and teaching shows! Her grading system works in your favor as well.
Dr. Scudder is a very engaging and informative lecturer with a clear passion for her field and large base of knowledge regarding it. She has very straightforward exams based off of lecture content and her content is both very accessible and genuinely interesting, and is made easier to understand through real life examples. Very highly recommend!
Such a great and passionate professor. This quarter she had lots of ULAs which helped me have more access to help outside of class. Lots of material covered but she posts the slides as well as a recording of the lecture which is helpful. Weekly quizzes are helpful as are practice exams. One writing assignment which wasn't too bad.
She is an amazing lecturer. She makes everything so interesting and explains it in an easy way. Lectures and lecture slides are posted on canvas. Weekly quiz and discussion, which aren't difficult. Everything she makes you read are portions of textbooks/articles that she personally highlights herself, so no unnecessary reading. Favorite prof by far
Dr. Scudder is an amazing professor and is very passionate about what she teaches. Psych106 is on the harder side, but she is very understanding, and she wants everyone to succeed. She has good lectures, and her midterms are very fair.
Professor Scudder is such a good teacher. 106 is a little hard, but with some work you can get where you need to be. She provides everything you need to get As on the tests. I got a D on her first exam, and ended with an A in the class due to her generous weighting of the tests. I recommend taking her if you can!!
Straight-forward and clear lectures. Midterm averages were high. Worst grade counts for 15%, so you can fail an exam and still get an A. Dr. Scudder wants you to do well, she offers a lot of resources and is so accessible both during lectures and outside of class. Cheatsheets during exams are a huge plus and make preparing less stressful!!
Biopsych is definitely an intimidating class but Prof. Scudder made it so enjoyable! The class is really test heavy, basically 3 tests determine your grade but she weighs them so that your best test is the highest weight and your worst test is the lowest weight. The tests are so reasonable as long as you study and you get a full page of notes too!!
I love professor scudder and would def recommend taking her! I know psy 106 can be a lot to teach so she does go a bit fast, but she explains everything very clear and informative. her exams are not tricky and as long as you study you can def get a good grade. she is very kind and will go above and beyond to help students do good in her class
100% an amazing instructor. Her exams are not at all there to trick you, like most of the professors. She makes the class extremely engaging, while being super encouraging to questions. I would totally love to have her as a prof again.
I am such a slacker and Dr. Scudder is one of those professors that makes you love learning. I have never learned so much and remembered so much from any course in my life. Truly will never forget this professor and will definitely take her again. for her exams, watch her recordings and hand write everything till it makes sense you will get an A!
Dr. Scrudder was a pretty fair teacher overall. I had her for biopsychology which personally is where psychology gets a bit hard and confusing, but I did actually learn some useful things here. In my experience, she was slow to reply to messages and slower at grading than others. But that wasnt much of an issue in the long run.
Took her at CSUDH (psychopharmacology). I was worried about taking this class but she made it very interesting and easy to understand. 3 exams, 5 worksheets, 3 disc. There is a LOT of information to cover in this class especially if you are not familiar with science. Tests and worksheets are open notes. She is helpful and responds to questions.
She is a very sweet person! She cares a lot that her students understand what is happening. She is also available outside of office hours if you can't make it. The class was informative! Out of 1 hr and 15 mins, I usually checked the clock at the hours mark. A solid choice!
Dr. Scudder IS AWESOME! Intro to Biopsych should definitely be split into multiple quarters! Explained concepts clearly; tests were hard but if you rinse, repeat, and recall by understanding the material, you will do great! I made too many careless mistakes first exam, studied extra hard for the next two, and it worked! Give SCUDDER A RAISE UCSB!
Dr. Scudder is just a lovely professor and really wants her students to understand the material. Lectures can be overwhelming & move fast, but it's not her fault. It's UCSB's fault for not making intro to biopsy 2 quarters. She makes lectures engaging, and interesting. Exams can be challenging but are fair. Give this woman a raise UCSB!
BEST psych professor this school has to offer. she's understanding of the needs of her students, actually cares about their feedback, and answers questions with a genuine desire to help students understand the material. exams are fair and quizzes were very easy as long as you pay attention in lecture. I agree with other raters, give her a raise!!!
