Wow. An absolute genius, but he expects a lot of his students. He can be a very interesting conversationalist if you go to office hours with genuine curiosity about what is being taught in class. Knowing derivations is a must, and he writes exams as if vector calculus is a pre-req (which it isn't for phys22...).

Tests are mostly based on lecture material, which for physics 22, if youve never taken a stats class, will be very hard to understand partly due to the pace of his lectures. A very knowledgeable professor but makes the subject hard to understand. Read the book and breathe the lecture material. ESPECIALLY the derivations. Average midterm was 40%

Fast paced lecturer. It really helps to read the notes before class, or you wont be able to keep up. You will feel like you are failing, but its graded on a curve and you wont do as badly as you think. Pretty helpful if you go to office hours.

Great professor. Enthusiastic about the subject. The class is very hard but that should kind of be expected if you choose to be a physics major.

His lectures are fast paced and proof heavy, similar to his tests. However, the homework assigned (and many of the review problems) are very different to this, which makes the tests extremely difficult. The subject matter is fascinating, and Young keeps it interesting, but I would not recommend his class if you can avoid it.

I personally like this professor because his test questions are pretty well made(although very hard). And he really put some effort into teaching physics. However, I will not suggest anyone to take his class. He is not a very good lecturer and his tests are much harder than homework and lectures.

Andrea Young has made me hate physics and have great disdain towards learning new material. I am truly astounded at how much of an impact this professor has had towards my contemplation of changing majors. If you are not required to take on of his classes, do not. I cannot describe how much pain this professor has put me through. God please help me

Teaching is more than just copying from the notes

Take his class only if you are really strong with your physics and math, tests are solely based on stuff not taught in class so no matter how many hours you will spend learning the class material, you wont get a good grade.

Andrea is a brilliant, articulate, fast paced, highly acclaimed assistant professor. He puts effort, passion, and time into helping us build a fundamental understanding of the physics before quantum. Tests are hard, DO NOT miss lecture, be prepared to take notes quicker than you ever have, and best of luck sticking with him in the last 30 minutes!
