Solid lectures that are clear and makes sense, HWs are tough but reasonable, and decently difficult exams without being merciless. Overall a good introduction to electrostatics without feeling terribly hard.
Chill prof, not too difficult but not an easy class just because electrostatics can be a bit challenging. Overall, a class that if you put the time into studying the concepts well, you will do more than fine.
Electrostatics is a hard concept to digest but Luo did a great job of introducing it to us. Lectures were great and somewhat intuitive, and she helped where it got a little fuzzy. Tests were fair and difficult, but curved nicely. Homeworks are hard but help you learn a lot. Office hours were also great.
Never thought i would not receive an A for a lab class. Everything was graded at the end and had extremely vague instructions. Gotten points knocked off for a bad conclusion. even though it told me to summarize. By the time I knew what type of lab report she wanted, the labs were all done. Someone should honestly fire this atrocity of a professor.
Meh, physics 23 was already boring and she didn't do anything to make it less boring
minimal instructions, yet maximum scrutiny when it comes grading. horrible.
Awful class. Unclear grading, tons of work for 2 units
Very good physics professor! Made the concepts clear, and was always willing to explain further, incredibly kind and caring. Tests are very easy, and she clearly wants to just give fair tests that most people can do well on. Also she gave us snacks on test day so immediate 5.
I cannot emphasize how horrible this professor is as a person and an instructor. The course is beyond poorly designed. The lab "guides" are horrendously bad at elucidating what is actually happening in the thing in front of you. She has the empathetic capacity of a single RNA strand. However, you will for sure learn how to do a linear fitting.
Unclear grading scheme for 20AL-BL-CL. Fygenson was basically absent from all labs, and her mandatory lectures for 20CL were a waste of time and were canceled often without warning. Get a good TA or this class will be horrible. This is the first time this class has been run, but it was not good.
Incredibly unclear instructions, we had no idea what we were being graded on half the time. We were marked down for not including things that weren't asked for in the lab manual. When you do get a lab grade, it generally comes with about 4 words (if that) of explanation that don't help you improve.
The 20AL-BL-CL series is a new curriculum, so of course its not going to go perfectly the first time. That being said, I literally did not see the professor once in class. Your experience is going to highly depend on which TA you have. Most are disinterested and not great at answering questions. Be prepared to learn everything on your own.
Absolutely horrible professor. Do not take for Physics 5L during the pandemic. Her labs are graded very harshly, and the workload required for this one credit class is so much more than the coursework required for the other labs. AVOID.
Instructs the lab TA's to grade lab notes like reports, so grades take a bit of a hit if you aren't thorough. Prof. Fygenson is very helpful though, and wants students to succeed. She is accessible and accommodating.
Don't take Fygenson's Phys 3L and 4L! It is only for physics major, but as a physics major student, I still don't recommend you to take her lab, because the name of the course is still 3L/4L, but it is much. harder than regular 3L/4L. Get ready for this 1 unit class become your nightmare if you will take her 3L/4L, not as 25L has a different name.
confusiong
Glad I learned imageJ. Its helped me so much.....
Very long and unclear instructions in labs. Never there.
As of you reading this, I do not have grades yet. It is 4 weeks into the following quarter.
This was a difficult course. However, Fygenson set fair exams and there was plenty of opportunity to collect credit through doing all the homeworks. She was also very happy to help whenever we had problems with the course material. There was also an assessed essay - unusual for a physics course - but nontheless very interesting in the end.
terrible professor. she does not know the course material very well and cannot seem to answer student questions. avoid this teacher at ALL COSTS. makes lectures mandatory as well and yet it is pointless to go to them because she does not know how to teach
Grades were due two days ago to the office of registrar, she hasn't submitted them yet. Very unorganized, explanations in lecture are very confusing, doesn't know what she's doing. Overall terrible professor, but seems nice outside of class/lecturing duties. still hate her tho lol
Terrible professor. Spends most of the lecture answering questions you posted for homework, and barely any time explaining the equations and how you use them effectively. Would not recommend this teacher to anyone. You're forced to attend her lectures because of iClicker questions that count for your grades.
Horrible teacher. When we went over her exams in class there were about 4 questions she couldn't even figure out. Extremely unhelpful and inflexible. Was not understanding when I missed an exam because I was very sick. Zero social skills. Not a good lecturer. Don't take her class.
