best phil prof ive taken at ucsb so far, his moral psych class is very interesting and he is very engaging
Prof Zimmerman was so funny and I really enjoyed his lectures. He explained complex ideas in a way I could understand. BUT your TA really matters! Mine sucked and made me even more confused. Grade is based on 2 papers and one, very long, written final. lAttendance is not mandatory but it you won't do well if you don't go to lecture.
Prof Zimmerman is an excellent lecturer. Unlike the textbook of this course, he never fails to catch my attention during the lectures. He is also open to all kinds of questions. If you are confused, just ask, and he will thoroughly answer your question.
don't take this class if you don't like debate style conversations. very heavy readings (very old papers). 2 papers and a writing final that was 4 essays, 800 words each. lectures were all over the place, not much structure. section attendance is mandatory, TAs provide paper outlines. as an ex-stem student, this class was awful. take another class
All quarter he was a relatively chill, only 2 papers and he was lenient on grading. Then finals came around and he released the longest study guide I have ever seen. His expectation for the final exam was completely unrealistic even though we had 3 hours for the final. Beware.
Go to lecture! Some of the material is hard to grasp but his lectures are engaging, interesting, and so helpful in passing the class. He's a pretty funny guy and will answer your questions to make sure everyone is understanding what's going on. Having a good TA definitely helped me in the class. One of my favorite classes I've taken so far.
Lectures are all over the place and not engaging at all. He doesn't make philosophical concepts accessible and this doesn't seem to give a great intro to ethics. He takes questions in lecture but interrupts people a lot. Final exam was brutally long but doable if you work on the study guides (those save lives).
This class was very easy and also very interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but Zimmerman is hilarious and his lectures are entertaining. The final is really long but as long as you study the review sheets he gives out before the midterm and final it is very easy to get an A. Go to your TA's office hours before turning in each essay too.
this class honestly lets you know whether or not you should major in philosophy. for some it's super easy, but for me personally it was so difficult. the readings were so hard to wrap my mind around, and his lectures seemed like he was repeating the same thing over and over again. his study guide really helped me pass the final tho
2 papers and 1 final (each 33%). Go to lecture because he gives extra credit assignments when less people show up. Your grade really depends on your TA. The final is cumulative and pretty tough so be prepared! Zimmerman is funny but hard to follow sometimes because he goes off on tangents to explain things. His handouts were life saving.
Although the lectures are not mandatory to pass the class, I found that they were both extremely engaging and helped outline key concepts that you would need to know for the final and both papers. He also likes to make jokes and they're actually pretty funny, extra credit offered and it is extremely easy to work. No busywork
Funny and knowledgeable guy, but kind of a d0uche. Class was easy to BS. I took 21 units this quarter, this class was perfect for a GE because I probably spent 5 hours in total on it and still passed. Final was easy as hell to study for, I primarily used Quizlet, and anything I couldn't find there I CTRL+F'd his lecture notes.
Zimmerman is great! He's genuinely hilarious, I spent most of lecture smiling. if you're interested in philosophy/ethics, the class is a great starting point. That being said, the reading is difficult so you should definitely come to lecture. Lecture is what he bases the final exam on. Also, there's no midterm, its just 2 papers and a HARD final
Definitely the most entertaining professor I have had so far. So funny and knowledgable. The subject is very dry and you need to attend lecture but he makes it worth attending. Go to section and participate because that can help your grade. He makes it easy for you by providing handouts of all the readings. Study guide is way too long. Hard class.
Greatest professor I've had so far. The material is a lot to process it when you get it the class is great. 2 essays and a final but he gives you the questions beforehand. It's work but doable. Pay attention in class, try on the papers and it's an easy A.
He's very condescending and arrogant. Calls people out in class if they're talking or on their phone. His lectures were pretty much impossible to take notes on. You have to go to class because he'll sometimes give you EC final exam questions. The material actually made you think. The final took the entire three hours.
I was expecting this to be easy - NOT AT ALL. Lectures were hard to follow, difficult to take notes on. If you're on the fence about philosophy, I would NOT recommend this class whatsoever.
Zimmerman was incredibly entertaining and enthusiastic teacher. Although I think ethics is pretty boring, he made jokes and kept everyone super engaged. Would definitely recommend taking a class with him. Maybe its just cause he's funny and obviously really educated but I thought he was superrrr hot, definitely works out too.
Aaron Zimmerman was an excellent lecturer. the lectures were probably not super important for the assignments due, but just showing up was beneficial. Not an easy intro class, it actually forces you to use your brain (imagine that), so I wouldn't recommend it for an easy A. If you want to actually learn something, Zimmermans your guy.
His lectures are clear and interesting; encourages class participation. His notes are online and summarize the readings quite well. He is quite humorous and makes class enjoyable. He assigns 2 papers and 1 final. The final is quite long, but he gives you the questions beforehand. He is always willing to help, either with essays or concepts.
Attended everything, enjoyed the class and prof. Went to another TA's section end of quarter and learned a ton, compared to mine who used felicific calculus to lazily explain everything, thanks for the C.
The way he lectures is very hard to keep up with. His final is way too long. This class is way too hard for an intro class. I highly regret taking him and I will avoid taking another class with him.
He's a great guy and teacher. You don't need to do to class since everything is in the handouts online. 2 short essays and final, no midterm. He gives you the questions to the final before and its all pretty straight forward.
Easily one of the best professors I've had at UCSB. Every lecture was interesting/fun. He has a great sense of humor and incorporates it into the class. The material can be complicated but he is very helpful in office hours. 2 papers and a final. The final is very long, but you do get the questions beforehand.
