Please teach Math 108B in Spring 2025! He explain concepts so well and help us truly understand the foundational basics. ya'll have to take his course!!!
After nearly a year, I came to check in again, hoping that Siegel can complete the zero point as soon as possible. .
Professor is very intelligent so sometimes he goes faster than he realizes so that can make him hard to follow. exams and hw are very rigorous but he offers help in lecture so go to lecture!! overall fair course but study your class notes because homework and exams are a much trickier version of the notes. overall amazing professor! kind & caring
I visited this website a few years ago, and I also read Teacher Zhang's documentary and sister's article, and I read it again today. After a years-long hiatus, Zhang published his Landau-Siegel Zeros paper today. Hope he succeeds again and becomes a legendary mathematician! Blessings from Shaoxing, China. Quoting Du Fu's poem again...
Amazing mind and equally amazing professor. A true gift to have learned from Dr. Zhang. One of the most brilliant minds of our time.
Don't take his online class, he is not a tech person. Read the PPT, and HW are difficult. Take his in person class. I drop his MATH 10B.
Practice exams are exactly like midterms and finals, with numbers and variables changed. Lectures are detailed but more than needed to do the tests problems., so they are not necessary Professor speaks very softly during lectures. I manage to pass the class skipping half the classes and just doing the homework and practice exams.
Professor Zhang's mind works so quickly that it can be hard to follow along with lecture. Fortunately, lectures are recorded and his notes are exceedingly clear. The homework can be rather difficult, but he gives many hints. The midterm and final are extremely faithful to the practice versions, and mostly computation-based.
Technology dumb, had him for online class, and his lectures were horrendous because he simply did not know how to work the online classes. Additionally, he will intentionally ignore your emails, if he does not understand questions you ask him. Grades harshly, and very not helpful with anything.
Despite his accent, Professor Zhang was able to explain things very clearly, which helped grasping the essence of abstract concepts. Besides, he gave practice exams that are very similar to the actual exams, so be sure to understand how to solve them. Homework also helped a lot if u do want a decent grade, and the workload is fine.
Tom is a really good professor. He is a really good lecturer.
Easy tests, exactly like practice. Good lectures but can be boring because he talks slow and quietly and he writes on a chalkboard. His explanations simplify things HEAVILY. Easy to understand, not very accessible outside of class. Definitely take him, helps you understand and is an easy grader. My homework grades were always lower than test grades
Midterm and Final were almost the same as the practice tests. Homework was half computational and half proofs but the graded problems were lenient. Sit in the front because his handwriting is small and his voice is soft.
He has a strong Chinese accent though I think it's ok for me. He speaks slowly but he has limited English skills and vocabs to explain the materials to us. So I often feel confused in his class. The good news is that he gives really easy exams. You don't really need to work hard, just do his practice midterms and finals.
He is an amazing and understanding teacher. He can look intimidating but is very very nice. He tests veryyyy fairly. There is no curve because his tests are so easy. Go to lectures and take notes and you'll pass. Beware what TA you get because the TA this quarter was ridiculous and graded super harshly. Highly recommend.
Heavy accent and not very tech savvy. If you sit anywhere behind row 5, you won't be able to hear anything. Other than that, though, his lectures a theory heavy but help greatly with learning the material.
Super kind and understanding; makes sure students learning is priority. Midterms and Finals are extremely reasonable and fair considering how much prep material he releases. Anyone salty about him literally had to have put 0 effort into his class. Hes great.
He is such a kind person. His midterm and final are so easy that you can pass if you do his practice problems. Really recommend him!
As long as you go to his class, youll receive an A. He explains everything clearly for the lecture. Tests are easy, exactly the same as the practice problems. Also, he announces what the quiz will cover in the lecture. The best Professor in UCSB!
86 on the final, 78 on the midterm, 100 on the homework, but a 67% on the quizes due to them being at 8am and missing two. Total grade? C. Gauchospace is empty so there's no syllabus to refer to. That's right. 5 minue 8am section grades (6 of them) account for 35% of the grade. Tests were fair, really fair. So was the homework. But this killed me
Respectful professor. Everyone should take his MATH 6A for letter graded. Very easy A as long as you do the hw and participation is not mandatory. However attending classes would give basic ideas about materials in homework and exams. I overslept for midterm but he's so nice and allowed me to take make-up midterm. And I got at last.
Lecture is really confusing and poor communication between the professor and the TAs made section basically useless. The exams were super easy though.
What he talks about in lecture barely has nothing to do with what appears in homework and exams.
