Quite possibly the greatest math teacher I've ever had. And that's the weird thing, he doesn't DO anything special... he just really knows how to explain things clearly and concisely. Doesn't BS his way through lectures, just delivers an explanation of multivariable calculus that could be grasped even by a five year old. I don't exaggerate.
Very helpful and wants you to succeed. Easily ask questions and anything else you need, he's got you.
Matt is extremely helpful and was a godsend in a math class taught by a foreign professor who made absolutely no sense in lecture.
The class was not following the textbook at all, and the teacher was going off on random tangents, but Matt helped make everything clear in section. Really the only way to learn the material was by going to section
Easy class
Matt was my TA for what is now math 6A. He was one of the most helpful and nice TAs I've ever had. He was bomb at explaining concepts that seemed really hard in class, making the class much easier and was able to do this with students of different learning levels. Loved him and highly recommended!
Great TA! I struggled with calculus but he made himself very available to help and explained things very well which helped me get an A in the class.
Matt Porter was the TA for Professor Buoni, and was excellent at relating the material in layman's terms and engaging the class to challenge themselves with the material.
Matt is a fantastic teacher. I wasn't looking forward to taking lin. alg./ diff. eqs, but he made it interesting (wow!). He is approachable and could explain things in a way that made sense to me. I haven't written reviews for the other math teachers I had at UCSB, but Matt really stood out. I would definitely recommend taking his class for linear.
Matt is a methodical teacher. He was clear and precise with his language and methods. Made complicated ideas simpler for those who needed help. Very friendly and approachable. Lots of questions asked, and lots of questions answered well.
Very helpful and wanted you to succeed. Definitely recommend !
I had Matt as a TA for my Math 3A teacher, he is the only reason I passed the course. Very clear and helpful.
Matt is great guy, very interesting lecture and easy exams, do your homework and show up in every class will result an easy A in the class!
Great Porfessor! Definitely knows his stuff.
Super nice guy who actually cares that you understand the material. He's very clear and gives useful example problems.
Very fair & helpful teacher, didn't try to trick or be super nitpicky when it came to exams. Still assigned challenging problems to probe your knowledge & grasp of the material.
Very helpful and clear TA, probably the only reason I passed the class! He also was in close contact with the teacher so he was able to give frequent updates about tests, and clarify all the problems that were unclear in class. Definitely recommend him for future students
Very easy going, taught material well and in a non-convoluted matter. Quirky dude but overall I thought he was really cool. Pretty funny.
Very helpful and straight forward. Class is designed for you to learn and not trick you. I highly recommend him as a professor
Answered all my questions and helped me do well on the Final!
He is good and friendly
Good TA, pretty helpful and clear.
I took MATH 3C with this professor, and I would have to say that he was my favorite math teacher here at UCSB. Class was not mandatory, but I would recommend going. He was really easy to understand and could effectively convey the concepts to the class. The tests were also completely reasonable and there were no questions that were impossible.
Good but don't really remember much, too many other subjects have been memorized and forgotten since then
