Professor Kennedy is caring and fun, and it's not his fault the topic of Ling20 was pretty boring and tedious. One or two long chapters for readings every week, which you should definitely do. He also does live zooms and recordings, which is so helpful. Definitely excited to take him again for higher-level linguistic classes!
Very boring class in general. Bob Kennedy is a good professor, but he does not teach me anything and I am not learning a single thing in his boring class about linguistics. Very bad and boring lectures, ranting about stupid tangents back and forth all day long. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! YOU WILL FAIL!!!! do not recommend unless going to sleep bored!
Very easy class, the midterm and the final were both online. Graded mostly by weekly quizzes and weekly assignments which are both easy 100%s since he made it so the quiz/assignment lets you redo the questions if you get them wrong. Would 100% take again
I appreciate the leniency on homework, the weekly quizzes and the online exams, but Professor Kennedy's teaching style is monotonous and dull and does not provide a good sense of the material most of the time. The textbook is similarly unhelpful, and he expects students to know/understand far more than we would for an introduction course.
Super flexible, caring, understanding of student's situations and worries about covid. Tried very hard to relate to students and make it an enjoyable experience. Lectures and slides were posted and they had all the information you needed. Great professor, highly recommend.
Lecture always recorded, sections optional if make-up work is done. Prof was very communicative and wanted to give easy points where he could. Pretty flexible and nice! Grading was a little inconsistent though... Super difficult midterm (5+ hours, scored a C) but final was a breeze (30 min, scored an A+). Content was clear.
bob is genuinely one of the better professors on campus. he's very understanding and is always pretty willing to help with extenuating circumstances that might make class hard. he's fantastic with giving feedback and helps his students understand the material really well. I'd take him again for any of his other courses!
Prof. Kennedy is a very caring and understanding professor. He makes funny jokes during lecture and is passionate about his area. Weekly checkpoints, but they're guaranteed 100%. Section is mandatory. Midterm and final are not that tough if you follow along. Easy GE if you need it, would def recommend
If I could rate professor Kennedy 10 stars I would. He is one of the most caring and understanding professors at UCSB. The weekly quizzes make up a big portion of your grade, but theyre quite easy. Final exam and midterms are not difficult if you attend lecture often. I loved the random memes he would include during lecture. 10/10 would recommend
Professor Kennedy was an amazing professor who deeply cares about his students. His lectures are entertaining and he includes breaks and humor. The class is mostly made up of weekly quizzes, but you can check the answers before you submit so you're guaranteed to get 100% in this category. He's one of the best professors I've had at UCSB!
Very nice and funny guy. On april fools he rick rolled everybody. Funniest professor I've had. assignments are guaranteed 100 and attendance is just show up and just exists and you'll get a 100. The exams were kinda hard for me even though they were open note but I think its fine considering every other grading criteria is basically guaranteed 100.
first professor at UCSB that I have felt actually cared about their students. He is genuinely a nice guy, and clearly passionate and up to date on current topics. class is should be an easy A if you do your work, lectures are recorded.
Fifth time taking Prof. Kennedy. He is very caring and supportive. The exams and assignments are not hard but inspiring. My favorite professor in ling department!
Kennedy is one of my favorite professors I've had so far! His lectures are very interesting because he knows so much about the topics he teaches. The weekly checkpoints are super easy and are automatic grade boosters, and the midterm/final were also easy. There are 2 writing assignments that are peer reviewed and can be redone for a better grade.
Prof Kennedy is definitely one of the best professors Ive had so far! Hes extremely funny and very precise when explaining linguistic concepts. Weekly quizzes are basically a guaranteed 100%, the 2 writing assignments are peer reviewed, and tests are pretty easy.
clear grading criteria. Super flexible with online format. Complete work and you’ll do well. he’s such a caring professor. Definitely reccomend
Dr. Kennedy is one of the nicest professors at UCSB, if not the nicest. You can tell he really enjoys the material he teaches and cares about his students. Definitely take any course you can with him, you won't regret it!
He is the GOAT! It is my fourth time taking prof. Kennedy's class. Assignments are easy to get full points, the term project is also very creative. The exams are somewhat hard, but he set reach-the-line grading criteria, making you get full points as long as you answer 72% of questions correctly.
Dedicated and kind professor! He was very clear on the grading, assignments are manageable, and quizzes allow you to retake until you get everything correct. I honestly found the material and lectures a bit boring, but if you're interested in linguistics Kennedy is great
Professor Kennedy is nice! But a lot of things to memorize. Assignments were easy but tests were hard.
Dr. Kennedy is great. You can tell he's really passionate about teaching which makes his classes really engaging. He's also hilarious which makes the long lectures worth going to. Lectures can get a bit boring but if you show up and take good notes class is easy. There is a textbook, but reading is not necessary to do well.
Third time taking Prof. Kennedy. Very amazing lectures. Most of the grade will depend on the self-checking assignment, easy full point.
This class was definitely an easy A. The midterm (during online learning) could be taken anywhere within a 12 hour period and not timed so there was no timed pressure. Weekly "quizzes" weren't really quizzes because you could attempt them as many times as you want to get the right answer. Not many ways you could fail this class.
Great lecturer even through Zoom format. Midterm and final were easy and had a large window to complete, questions mainly from lecture content as opposed to textbook.
