Erickson is an enthusiastic lecturer and is very engaging with the entire class. He guides the class through the translation in a clear and positive way, which is so nice because Latin can be very frustrating and difficult to figure out when you're stuck. He's such a funny professor and this was one of my favorite classes I've taken.
Not very good. He is good with the fufu classes like myth, but not the upper division language classes. I found myself drowning in work and he was not helpful and frequently got his latin translations wrong. Some students even had to correct his Latin. Steer clear of this one
Great professor- he's very helpful, friendly and hyper. The course itself is rather challenging. There is sight reading on the midterm and final and we have to learn meter.
A good latin professor. The class is actually sort of interesting and not as painful as expected. Watch out for 100% or nothing quizes. He could do better with explaining grammer. He goes just a little to fast at times. He can be funny at times. We do have to learn meter.
One of the best Classics professors I've ever had. Easy to understand and humorous. Talks about surfing A LOT. And he's hot!
Erickson's CLAS40 is a gem - entertaining lectures and manageable work. Skip the readings and focus on class notes. Use unstuck ai and ChatGPT to breeze through the essays. With some effort, you can easily snag an A.
A very chill professor. No issues
If you want an easy A, just go to class. Everything that you need to know in order to do well in this class is taught in lecture. Erickson is a super entertaining lecturer as well with a very pleasant and inviting charisma. If you don't go to class, you won't get an A. Despite that, going to class is well worth it. Only class I've genuinely enjoyed
if you want an easy GE, prof erickson's greek myth is a great option. you can get away with doing minimal work and still get a good grade. the papers are worth a lot, but if your ta is chill even that shouldn't be a major stressor. prof erickson's lectures on their own are super entertaining and make greek myth fun!
prof erickson is super funny and entertaining in lecture, and his courseload is manageable and pretty easy. the papers are a bit long, but a little effort goes a long way with them. honestly didn't do a single reading and still did decent in the class. the in-class timed essays are easier than they sound.
There are lots of readings but he goes over them in lecture, which was a lot easier than reading them. Timed essay for the midterm, in-person multiple choice final, and final essay relating Greek Myth to a modern day movie. The lectures are entertaining and easy to understand.
If you dont go to lecture and you dont like going to lectures in general dont take this class. If you try to look at the slides to catch up you wont really catch up. I did the absolute bare minimum and got a C.
Idk i heard this was an easy A but lowkey its not. There is a midterm essay, a 6 page paper, and a 100 question final. Everyone says pay attention in lecture but its so hard cause he just talks and his powerpoints are just pictures. Idk i would have rather wrote an essay than have to memorize 100+ terms.
Great lecturer, very funny. Just pay attention in class and you'll be fine for exams.
I loved Erickson. If you go to lecture and just listen, you will get an A. Sections are mandatory which was kinda rough but always got out early anyways. My favorite class that I've taken here. Instead of doing the reading, I would always watch a Youtube vid and it worked the same. Highly recommend
This professor is the best professor I have ever had!!! Not only does he come to class everyday and involve the crowd, but he makes the lesson clear and understanding. The class is made up of 3 assignments which are super easy if you know what you're talking about! Overall, he is one of the most caring and hilarious professor I have taken. 11/10
He is an amazing teacher. He is very entertaining and very passionate. His class isn't too hard just make sure to really pay attention in class and you won't even need to spend your free time on this class. I would definitely recommend this class if you're looking to complete a GE.
A god amongst men, no one compares to the GOAT Erickson in any regard, he's just such a guy. Very funny, you can tell he just wants to teach some Greek myths and have a good time.
Erickson is such a great lecturer and even made me consider minoring in classics for a while. The material is really fun, and I even was excited to write my final paper :'D. Readings can be a little long and unclear, so make sure you set aside time for it. Definitely one of my favorite classes I've taken at UCSB, and pretty easy too.
Erickson is such a great professor, I really enjoyed my time in his lectures and it was the one class I actually looked forward to attending during my winter quarter. There is quite a bit of reading but it isn't that difficult. You can also get away with not really doing the readings, however, if you want a high grade you must still put in effort.
Everyone loves Professor Erickson. He makes this class incredibly interesting and fun through his lectures. If you take this class you should join the honors section; it is a great opportunity to have him be your TA and you will gain a greater appreciation for archaeology and myth. I woke up each day excited to go to this class.
Professor Erickson is really energetic and pretty funny. There were only 3 assignments: Midterm, Paper, Final. The paper was actually really fun to write. Despite the massive class size, he still tries to engage with as many students as he can. His lectures are very clear, and he did curve the final and the papers too I believe.
Super funny! loved his class
Erickson is a cool dude, but when it comes to GreekMyth, it is a very chaotic class. His powerpoints online contained little to no information so you would HAVE to go to lecture to know what is going on. The homework was lots of reading. He barely responds to emails and he jumps around a lot in class which can be confusing. Interesting but chaotic.
