Great prof. Very entertaining and full of life during his lectures. Content is not the most interesting but he finds a way to make it interesting. One midterm and one final pretty easy and graded very fairly. Overall a good class.
One of the most teachers ever. Lectures were whatever, he grades the final paper kinda tough, but it's reasonable.
Great Professor! This was my second time taking one of his classes and I just love the vibe he gives off. Easy assignments and open ended essay final. Just go to lecture and you'll be fine.
I LOVED him. Lots of reading but they were super interesting. It's alright if you fall behind there were only two pop quizzes (unbelievably easy) and an online midterm. He's funny, his lectures are easy to follow and he posts the slides beforehand... Definitely recommend!
David is the sweetest professor ever and genuinely cares about his students and getting them interested in the lecture material and books read. There is no homework aside from a midterm/final paper that he helped a lot for, and all you have to do in the class is readings that are genuinely interesting.
David is such an engaging lecturer with a witty sense of humor that isn't painful to listen to. He's a professor that actually cares about his students. He takes time to understand students' schedules and is very accommodating for the midterm (gives you a whole day to do them). 10/10 would take his class again.
He doesn't give grade. All grades are given by TAs. As afrontmentioned by another student, his lectures are boring, but his grading is fair and is not related to your final grade to a great extent. After all he is a nice professor who turned mid term into take home exam just because something went wrong with the submission.
Quite possibly the worst lecturer I've ever had. Extremely monotonous and the content was wildly boring. Either no one showed up or slept during the lectures. Had to go through LOOPS to get an extension on the final paper... Otherwise, midterm and final are graded fairly and other than that, there was no homework. Section attendance mandatory.
Prof. Moak is pretty solid and I don't understand all the really negative reviews. He's a pretty nice guy and wants people to do well in his class. His lectures can be pretty boring, but interesting if you enjoy history (slides are packed). Readings can also be long and boring. Work load consisted of weekly forum posts, 2 essay midterm and final.
I had Moak for HIST 123C during Fall '20. The course was remote but I felt that I learned a lot anyway. Moak structures the course perfectly and his lectures were easy to understand. There were two essays in the course which had fairly easy topics. In addition, there was a discussion board that I viewed as pointless but it not difficult.
As English is my second language, this class requires tremendous time for me to read and understand, and it requires some self-studying. However, the professor is very nice and caring. two papers, no midterm/final.
cool
Lectures were dense but when I paid attention and engaged with the material, I actually quite enjoyed the content and Moak's teaching style (keep in mind I am a History major). Exams were a mix of IDs and short essay/essay questions that TAs prepare you well for.
Moak is clearly passionate about the material but most of the lectures are pretty boring. As long as you understand how the topics are connected to each other, the exams (which have vocab and essays) aren't too bad. There is iClicker for the lectures and a group presentation in section but overall this class wasn't a lot of work.
Very passionate abt the topics & would crack jokes in lectures. MANDATORY iClicker attendance. For those taking as a GE: 68% of your grade is an in-person midterm & final (both have an ID + essay), & 2 online MCQs. I NEVER did the readings & did well! There's also a section grp project. YOUR GRADE DEPENDS SOLELY ON HOW YOUR TA IS W/ GRADING ESSAYS!
good class; some concepts are hard to grasp due to unclear explanation. attendance is mandatory because of iclicker, the readings aren't too bad (he provides access to the textbook for free). midterm was pretty hard and final was the same. one group project in your section, but overall not a bad class and he's nice and cares about his students.
Professor Moak is awesome. He's very laid-back and likes to engage with his students (He is kind of silly). His analyis of the books we read was very interesting and the topic of the class was entertaining. You will have to read a bit but there are simple true/false quizzes, an essay midterm, and a fun creative essay at the end. Take this class!
If you are interested in French 1, take it with Moak! He is a great professor and has a passion for his work. He teaches like 85% French and 15% English. However, you can easily understand everything without prior exposure to French. Just make sure to finish homework and participate. Don't skip lectures cuz he teaches lots of stuff in each lecture.
Professor Moak is approachable and supportive. His lectures are engaging and witty. As long as you pay attention in lecture and section the exams aren't that bad. It's clear that he's passionate about the subject and wants students to succeed - which are the two things that make a great professor! :)
I actually love him so much. So knowledgeable about the subject and makes lectures so engaging. Also really attractive tbh.
Super easy GE, Iclicker for lectures but lecture slides are posted online. 1 assignment a week and the extra reading materials are not even really neccesary. Midterm was super fair, the TAs write out definitions for the IDs and give to you to study which allows for an easy A on midterm and final. Section is mandatory but super chill
super chill, two quizzes online easy. creative podcast final, and one essay. hes honestly a very good lecturer, any reading i didn't understand he would clearly explain it in lecture. as a global studies major i always left this class inspired and with new found epiphanies. text book is free and to get off waitlist sit in front row first day
Loved this class & the professor. Witty guy and I didn't hate listening to him talk. Attendance only mandatory in section & technically there's reading, but skimming got me an A sooo. Final was a podcast which was not difficult and there were some "pop" quizzes but they were take home & not too hard if you go to class. Would take more classes w him
I took this course Spring '21, so it was online. Regardless, the course content was very interesting and relevant to our lives today. Professor Moak's lectures are engaging and very interesting. He's kind and easy to reach outside of class and is very passionate on the topic. I recommend taking this course! The exams were not bad if you studied.
