His class was fairly easy and interesting. Made his slides easy to follow along and provided them before lecture began. It went a lot into Roman time and the metaphors used in the readings. There were three readings (poems, a long story, and few chapters of a book). Would recommend this class and professor.
Super entertaining and helpful professor! He speaks mostly French throughout lecture, but clarifies everything he's saying. His class is structured a lot around participation, which is helpful for homework and compositions as it gets you familiar with all the vocab, conjugation, etc that's required. Would definitely recommend taking his class!
Lectures were dense but when I paid attention and engaged with the material, I actually quite enjoyed the content and Moak's teaching style (keep in mind I am a History major). Exams were a mix of IDs and short essay/essay questions that TAs prepare you well for.
Moak is clearly passionate about the material but most of the lectures are pretty boring. As long as you understand how the topics are connected to each other, the exams (which have vocab and essays) aren't too bad. There is iClicker for the lectures and a group presentation in section but overall this class wasn't a lot of work.
Very passionate abt the topics & would crack jokes in lectures. MANDATORY iClicker attendance. For those taking as a GE: 68% of your grade is an in-person midterm & final (both have an ID + essay), & 2 online MCQs. I NEVER did the readings & did well! There's also a section grp project. YOUR GRADE DEPENDS SOLELY ON HOW YOUR TA IS W/ GRADING ESSAYS!
good class; some concepts are hard to grasp due to unclear explanation. attendance is mandatory because of iclicker, the readings aren't too bad (he provides access to the textbook for free). midterm was pretty hard and final was the same. one group project in your section, but overall not a bad class and he's nice and cares about his students.
Really great professor and very willing to help you succeed in the course. Even though it's 4 days a week, class was entertaining and typically pretty funny and he makes sure to keep it engaging. Also, he is always very willing to help answer questions or spend extra time explaining a concept.
Professor Moak is awesome. He's very laid-back and likes to engage with his students (He is kind of silly). His analyis of the books we read was very interesting and the topic of the class was entertaining. You will have to read a bit but there are simple true/false quizzes, an essay midterm, and a fun creative essay at the end. Take this class!
If you are interested in French 1, take it with Moak! He is a great professor and has a passion for his work. He teaches like 85% French and 15% English. However, you can easily understand everything without prior exposure to French. Just make sure to finish homework and participate. Don't skip lectures cuz he teaches lots of stuff in each lecture.
Took him for French 1 and French 2 and I'm taking him for French 3. Great professor. It's obviously that he cares about his students and how they do in the class.
Professor Moak is approachable and supportive. His lectures are engaging and witty. As long as you pay attention in lecture and section the exams aren't that bad. It's clear that he's passionate about the subject and wants students to succeed - which are the two things that make a great professor! :)
I actually love him so much. So knowledgeable about the subject and makes lectures so engaging. Also really attractive tbh.
Super easy GE, Iclicker for lectures but lecture slides are posted online. 1 assignment a week and the extra reading materials are not even really neccesary. Midterm was super fair, the TAs write out definitions for the IDs and give to you to study which allows for an easy A on midterm and final. Section is mandatory but super chill
Very nice way of learning a language. Even though the course is not too intense, really learning a lot. The way the course is set up really effective. Short classes almost everyday and the teacher can be funny sometimes. nice environment to learn in
This guy is super fun to have as a professor. Makes french super easy.
super chill, two quizzes online easy. creative podcast final, and one essay. hes honestly a very good lecturer, any reading i didn't understand he would clearly explain it in lecture. as a global studies major i always left this class inspired and with new found epiphanies. text book is free and to get off waitlist sit in front row first day
Loved this class & the professor. Witty guy and I didn't hate listening to him talk. Attendance only mandatory in section & technically there's reading, but skimming got me an A sooo. Final was a podcast which was not difficult and there were some "pop" quizzes but they were take home & not too hard if you go to class. Would take more classes w him
I took this course Spring '21, so it was online. Regardless, the course content was very interesting and relevant to our lives today. Professor Moak's lectures are engaging and very interesting. He's kind and easy to reach outside of class and is very passionate on the topic. I recommend taking this course! The exams were not bad if you studied.
David Moak is a great lecturer! Very charming and funny and his lectures were always interesting!
prof moak was great!! 2 pop quizzes, midterm essays, section/participation, mini presentation in section, and final project was a podcast. this was an intro course and it involved a lot of readings but very manageable. material was alright, but it's good if you'd like to fulfill for a GE.
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. I always felt excited to attend lectures and his analysis of the books never failed to astound me. Grades were based off of section attendance/participation, two papers, and two mini pop quizzes on the reading. An easy and fun class if you enjoy literature.
He can be a bit boring in lectures but he makes efforts to be funny or make the content a little more interesting. Assignments were 2 pop quizzes, 2 essays for the midterm, and a final podcast (all are pretty fair). He posts lectures online and uses an online textbook (it's free!), definitely a lot of reading but just stay on it and you'll do well!
My favorite professor this quarter! He genuinely cares for his students & wants them to do well. Has a great sense of humor that makes lectures entertaining! Decent amount of reading but workload felt fair. Midterm/final papers make up a little over half of your grade, but the rest is easy points. Pretty straight-forward, enjoyable class!
overall great professor I personally enjoyed going to lectures as he made them enjoyable but he records them and puts them up so not mandatory. Class graded on 2 quizzes, paper midterm and project final which are very easy. If you have the chance for sure take his class :)
