Steigerwald is the most attentive and sharp professor Ive had. I took Econ 140B with him. By the 2nd class he had all our names down, and if any of us looked confused, he called on us and would explain things in multiple ways until we understood. He really just wanted us to learn, and didnt have a set number of topics we needed to get through.

Doug is a phenomenal professor--an absolute anomaly in the crusty Economics department! He's an affable man, with a genuine interest to know and aid his students. To be frank, most people that think otherwise probably did not APPLY themselves to Econometrics, which is an incredibly difficult class to grasp both conceptually, and technically.

Steigerwald may be confusing at times during lecture, but he is always willing to clear things up for students. Office hours are great for an in depth understanding of the material. He is caring about his students and likes interactive lectures / OHs once he gets to know you a little. Steigerwald's 140a is challenging, but worth the knowledge.

The material is super difficult & summer class moves fast but Steigs is one of my favorite professors in my 3 yrs at SB. If you put in the time he'll meet you half way and genuinely wants his students to succeed. I've actually learned a lot, especially compared to 109 where I crammed the material and forgot it all. OH and study groups help a ton!

Steep learning curve to the material but he is very willing to help. Genuinely cares about his students. After a lecture he asked me if I wanted to attend his office hours with some other students. I can't remember the last time a teacher cared if I was doing well or not! TA office hours are a must for a good grade. Don't get the book.

I am sorry bro. Even as an diligent student, I dont get jack he is talking about. What he taught is not closely related to the materials The notes are horrible. THe TA does more help than him. The class size decreased from 40 to 20 and I should have followed the people. Materials are too advance to be understood even you have statistical background

Teacher is unable to teach ungraduates without some serious help. Do not take this course has more than a 75% attrition rate for an upper division class. The Econ department needs to get their act together since upper division courses are not where you are supposed to do your weeding.

Amazing professor, but very tough grader (and class). High expectations of both his students and himself. He meets with each of his students to discuss their goals, and as a result he is the only professor I had during my four years that knew my name. I am impressed by his dedication to his students.

Incredibly condescending. He thinks so highly of himself. If you ask a question, he feels challenged and puts you down in class. He meets with everyone and then tells them how to run their life.

We were ‘fortunate’ enough to have professor Steigerwald visit us in Australia for a few months. Having minimal experience with American professors, I ask the following. Do all American professors: ride tandem bicycles? grade in such an ad hoc manner? act is such a condescending and self righteous manner?

Hard grader, but a good teacher. Only gives out a handful of A's. He doesn't really view grades as a reflection of your performance. I got a B- in his class, but he wrote me a letter of recommendation that certainly helped me get into grad school.

Condecending **** that won't know how to relate to a student if it was himself.

He is Jim Carrey on crack. He's condescending & ****. Grades not based on academic merit. If he doesn't like you, you get a crappy grade. Lectures are unclear unless you've done ALL the reading. Also, he uses advanced stats, so take 120ABC - helps lots!
