Getting a B is super easy. An A means fighting tooth-and-nail! recruiting season screwed this up for a lot of people, so BEWARE if you're planning on taking this class during fall and going through internship or full-time recruiting. But the guy is an MBA, CPA, JD = he knows his stuff and is an open book for his students, although exams are TRICKY!
Feeds off being tricky. Hard tests, but if you put the work in you will get a good grade. Pay attention to his "hints" in class because those topics are always on the test.
Terrible Grading System. Funny guy sometimes. Quiz every day on 2 chapters have to memorize the book to do well. Not cool.
cool guy, but as a teacher, he is terrible. Daily quizzes are annoying, and he does nothing to prepare you for test (I always read the material and it was still hard). Also, just know that you're project grade is very closely related to your overall grade, so don't expect an A on it if you have a C in the class, no matter how hard you worked.
Only if u r native speaker... or else i won't recommend you take the class. an A students have to read a class material at least 2 times. non native 3+ and voca and office hr and practice online exam.
for native speaker, you have to read a chapter 2+ times in order to get a B or higher. for none speaker, 3+ if possible + memorize voca and go to his office hrs and do the online practice. really time consuming class.
This class is easy ONLY if you read the material serveraltimes. The exams are all multiple choise (tries to trick you) and there are daily exams. He's pretty funny and easy to listen to so the class goes by quickly. Would definitely recommend this class.
Honestly professor Kulper's class is more difficult than anticipated. Rambles about his stocks for 75% of the class and doesn't teach much... which is terrible because of the difficulty of his tests. Received an A, I had to literally memorize every sentence in the textbook. Only 6 A's, 6 A-'s and 50 B's and C's
You need the textbooks for your daily quiz. Exams are typical Econ exams. The group project is not bad, provided your group doesn't suck! As for Kulper himself, he spends a lot of time rambling about things vaguely related to econ or accounting, and not enough time actually teaching. He puts up a powerpoint and rushes through it in minutes.
Kulper is the man. Hilarious guy. Goes on tangents at times but they keep the class interesting. Reading assigned for every class, which there is a quiz relating to it that day. 2 midterms, 1 final, and a 40 page paper among 6-7 people. I recommend reviewing the assigned reading before class, that way you are refreshed on the material. Great class.
Great Teacher. Very funny and you want to listen to him. A lot of reading to stay on top of. Quizzes every lecture/class. Glad I had him overall.
By far one of the best professors at UCSB. This class met once a week for 3hrs and it flew by with all of his funny stories. Weekly quizzes so must attend class. Make sure you read the text really well because some of his quiz and test questions are very specific. The most useful class you will take at UCSB!
great professor. He cares about his students and gives great advice. He gives quizzes and exams almost every class. It forces you to read and learn the material. His lectures go over the materials more in depth. He's awesome and I would recommend him to others who want to learn and not those that want easy classes. Although, he's not that hard
dont like him at all...he doesnt teach anything! if you wanna learn do not take him!!
Enjoyable class for econ, quiz every lecture, 4 equal tests, and a big project. pretty easy if you put in a little effort
Kulper's a great professor! Really enjoyed his class, there was a quiz or exam in every class but if you read the short chapter (10 page average) its easy, plus he goes over it in class right before. Interesting material and funny professor, he likes what he does & shows an number of interesting, real world news/60 minute clips! Highly recommend!
Doug is a funny, fascinating guy. This class met twice a week, consisted of 5 tests, and a mini quiz every day we did not have a test. This class requires you to stay up on the reading (not too bad), and is very easy to get a B+. To get an A, however, you've got to put in a fair amount of effort
Sweet class. about the only thing good in UCSB econ
Professor Kulper makes his lectures very entertaining. He always has a smile on his face:). No midterm or final, but a quiz every week. I hate accounting, but he made this class fun.
I really love kulper! I have him for business law too. For ethics, you read one chapter for each class but each chapter is only like 5 pages long. then you have a quiz at the end of class. hw but he never collects it and presentation at the end. I enjoyed his class!
Doug is a baller. His lectures are 3 hours but they fly by because of his humor and great personality. No midterm or final, just one quiz worth 10% of your grade every class. In class he goes over the entire chapter you are about to be quizzed on. He also gives you lots of extra credit opportunities. Best and most interesting econ class I've taken!
Look. It is not easy to get an A. 20% get A or A-, 60% get Bs. and 20% Cs. That said, it is a fun class and 3 hours go by fast. He is also funny. Look, if you want an A you gotta be street smart 2.0. if you understood the above phrase then you can get an A or A-. if not, then your getting a B. Goodluck to you suckers who think this is automatic A.
I LOVED Dougy's class...very fun...take it, its an easy B, B+, but its hard to get an A...though very possible...Quiz, every week, but no other exams..and the final is a non ****quiz. If you're a class skipper this is not for you. He's amazing, and very interesting...go for every point of extra credit. It will make a half letter grade difference.
Kulper is great! Easy class to get an A- in if you just got to class! No midterm or final but just a quiz ever class which he goes over all the material before hand. An A is pretty hard to get since you will really have to know your stuff. Take this class!
