He's a pretty zany guy, I wish I was able to take more classes with him. I will say though, the problem sets didn't really prepare me for the exams.
Genuinely one the of the best profs! So funny and lectures were NEVER boring. He always made the time to talk after class. 4 Problem Set packets, math was difficult. Easy 8-min group presentation in section. Entire grade based on 2, 70-100 questions exams w/ EXTREMELY SPECIFIC questions. Such an amazing & caring man, but exams were lowkey a joke.
Four problem sets, one presentation, two midterms. Problem sets are relaxed, but grades really depend on TAs. Mine was chill and helped me with questions I was stuck on. The first test was 100 questions, the second 74. No study guide or cheat sheet. Review sessions were not great. Ended the class with a 98% after studying slides for hours.
Loved lectures but your grade is basically two exams that are worth 200 points and are 100 questions long so if you aren't a good test taker like myself you are screwed. Attendance isn't mandatory but you kinda of need to go to lecture to pass so go to lecture.
great online class. tests were very easy. weekly assignment was easy. you don't need to watch lectures, but he gave great lectures that were recorded so you could watch them on your own time. section was weekly zoom but didn't take attendance.
Open book/note which made things easy. All you have to do is watch the lecture videos and do the associated problem sets (there were only four but you get three attempts at them). Two midterms, no final. There's also a pre-recorded presentation assignment.
I LOVEEEEEED this class. literally so easy and so fun. prof's lectures were very engaging and easy to understand. TAs made reviewing for the final super easy bc of the final exam review slides they sent out. only thing that was slightly challenging was problem sets but TAs were available to help you understand. 100% would take this class again!
hate STEM but need area c completed? perfect choice right here, exams were literally open internet, easiest A I've ever gotten
he is the best. Take this class over Earth 124I. Matt is so kind and funny and makes the class understandable, he wants you to succeed. exams are a little hard but he curves them. problem sets are also diffucult but go to office hours.
Matt Jackson where do I begin. An international hero and witness of absolute crazy geological events. The class has a lot of interesting material that is not hard to understand. Matt is very passionate about the subject. Midterm and Final are not bad if you study and memorize the catastrophes. Take this class!!!!
took his earth 2 geology class. lectures are interesting but sometimes goes off topic and hard to decipher whats important to know. otherwise, amazing professor and super caring. midterm and final was straightforward and everything else was clear. he was great!
Matt is an AWESOME professor, and a very understanding guy. The course can be rough if you're not a science-oriented person (hence my grade) but he will go out of his way to make it as easy as possible for you to pass. There is a little math involved in the problem sets, but TA's make sure to help you with them in section.
Matt is a great teacher. Clear lectures and straightforward assignments and tests. There was very little homework and the TAs are super helpful.
Cool guy, pretty solid lectures and easy tests if you go over everything from the slides.
very easy and interesting lectures
Pretty easy class considering a) I didnt know anything about geology and b) it covers a bunch of areas. Best professor and makes sure that the class is given the upper hand, so you're basically gonna get a good grade. Would take again :)
Prof. Jackson was super great this quarter! I'm not very good at science but this was pretty easy for me.
awesome professor! super passionate about the class! your grade is 80% midterms, but theyre not too bad as long as you study and stay on top of the material. overall, a very fun class!
Really enthusiastic lecturer who cares about students. Lecture slides can be disorganized and lectures hard to follow along, but he makes up for it with his passion and fair grading criteria. Exams so easy if you take notes. Like others mentioned he was very accommodating w/exams+grades bc of strike but don't take advantage of him. Great person.
Ateeeeee
Great lecturer. He's super into the material he teaches. Accessible outside of class & very understanding. Class consisted of 2 non-cumulative MC exams based on lectures that were pretty easy & based on lecture slides. HW is 4 problem sets which TAs go over in section and were straight forward using the book + 10 min group presentation in section.
I highly recommend taking this class with Prof Jackson. There are two midterms (multiple choice), no final, four problem sets, and a group presentation. I know that sounds like a lot but it's really really not. In section, your TA's totally help with the problem sets. Def go to the review sessions, if you go you will pass the midterms.
Matts a great Professor with good stories to go along with his lecture slides. Takes into account outside forces and genuinely wants each of his students to succeed. There are only 2 Exams and NO FINAL! Only had to take 1 exam and the second was optional with a cheat sheet.
Took in fall2021. Grade consists of 4 problem sets, 2 midterms (multiple choice), and one 3-min presentation on a geological catastrophe. Lectures and material were reasonable for an online course. TA was very helpful, helped me pass so take advantage if you need help! Not the easiest course, but prof was very interested in his material! :)
