I have no words other than horrible. Shes the worst professor ive had here at UCSB. Doesn't have any moral code or compass. 3 tests determine entire grade and doesn't drop the lowest score.

Very tough class... 75% of your grade depends on the three exams you take throughout the quarter. However, there is lots of material to cover and it goes by quickly. This is a conceptually heavy class and it helps to prepare in advance. The fact that you only get 50 minutes for each test also doesn't help, as you have no time to go back and review

overall a very good lecturer. in my opinion, in order to succeed in this class, you need to be ready to give it your all. material was a bit difficult at times, but professor and TAs are very accessible and helpful. you can tell she really wants everyone to do well.

Prof. Metzger is an amazing lecturer. Her lectures are clear and organized. However, the 3 exams are worth 75% of the grade. She gives you the option to retake one of the two midterms but the retakes are even harder and she doesn't let you drop the lowest grade. Homework is easy but it's nothing compared to midterm content.

I am not a math person but I really enjoyed this class. Metzger gave lots of clear, real-life examples for every chapter. I learned a lot from her and the textbook. If you read the textbook, attend lectures, and do the homework problems, you will be good!

Doesn't know how to teach or respect her students. Got frustrated when they didn't understand her awful explanations and constantly contradicted herself when teaching. Also made the tests unnecessarily difficult and they rely heavily on your grade. 25% for two midterms and a final she ill prepares your for. Do not recommend. Overall disrespectful.

She makes you feel dumb. What should be an easy introduction to statistics is made to be hard and confusing. She constantly contradicts herself and barely explains what youre actually learning. She talks down to her students and makes her class test dependent, so if youre not a good test taker, do not take her course. Nothing good to say about her.

I was nervous going into the statistics class but Metzger cares about students' education and makes every effort to prove it. She is a clear lecturer who makes herself available outside of class (even holds extra office hours before exams) and is extremely responsive to student concerns. Tests are fair, with study guides posted before each one.

she makes the tests weigh more which is bad If you're bad at taking tests

Metzger is so kind! Grading (at least with my TA) was lenient, and you can buy the textbook but she'll give pdf's of everything you need so you don't have to. Her lectures are concise, and although they did run over by a few minutes at the end she was good at minimizing rambling. Tests are not bad, she has LOTS of office hours. Loved her! :)

I didn't do well on the first exam because I didn't know what to expect, but afterwards I aced every test. I suggest you review the weekly readings she gives you (the ones assigned for homework) before an exam because it's super helpful for the tests. If you know how to answer the questions assigned weekly, you're set for the test.

Tests are extremely hard to finish on time, which is unfair and exams are graded harshly

Metzger is the worst educator I have ever met. She is not helpful, or flexible, nor does she have any empathy for students' hardships (especially while COVID is going on). I took the class twice & it was awful both times. Do not take 87 with Metzger, choose the other professor (whoever he is)

I took COMM 87 with Metzger instead of PSTAT 5A because I thought it would be easier. I was right. If you have a STEM major and you can take this class instead of PSTAT 5A, do it! The content focuses on simple statistical concepts, staying away from specifics, and she goes over everything in a lot of detail. There is a textbook but it's only $30.

Metzger is by far the worst teacher I have ever had at UCSB. She is not easily accessible nor is she helpful when you do get time with her.

Went over every study guide in detail and still received very low scores on tests. Professor seemed very annoyed when questions were asked and wasn't very helpful. Material was simple yet my test scores were still not reflective. Do not recommend taking this course when she is the professor

she gave tricky exams. went to her office hours and she showed that she didn't like to help and was annoyed by the amount of students going into office hours by finals week as she has to keep repeating the same answers. at beginning of class she always said she would give easy tests but after first exam she never mentioned that its easy tests.

Metzger steadies her lectures and never covers too much material. She wants you to focus more on why concepts occur in statistics rather than the math of it which I enjoyed because I am always asking "why." I took this class as a freshmen new to the quarter system and got an A+, so I highly recommend taking with Metzger. Read the optional textbook

Metzger is clear, concise, and an all around solid professor. The class is graded on 3 separate tests and attendance to section along with weekly homework assignments. Do your reading, show up to class, do all the homework problems and know the study guides front and back and youll be fine. If you want an A you can get it, just be prepared to work
