Professor Rawlings is very funny and has pretty interesting lectures. You do not have to go to lecture to pass the class because he pulls everything out of the book. However, i-clicker questions are always asked. Attending section is kind of a waste of time, but since is such a large portion of your grade, it's best to go if you want at least a B.

Bar none, my favorite teacher at UCSB. His passion, enthusiasm, and overall personality makes you want to go to class. Whatever class he teaches, you will leave a more well-rounded student and wanted to continue to take his classes. Always available to help and make accommodations ! Best teacher i have ever had. period.

Rawlings is hands down my favorite professor at UCSB. He has a passion for teaching and truly cares about all of his students. Midterm and final are both take home and relatively easy to do. OH, AND HE DOES HANDSTANDS, so go to lecture!

TOOK SOC 108ST with prof Rawlings. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's worth attending. 4 easy take home m/c quizzes and 2 research papers that weren't tough. Dr. Rawlings is a great professor! Funny and engaging. Loved his course. Take it I recommend. Got a B

To this day my favorite class at Santa Barbara. He made 8 am lectures fun and made an effort to get to know people personally in our huge lecture. He's the reason I decided to major in sociology and I would recommend taking any class he teaches!

easily the most interesting lectures I've ever attended. mine was an 8 am lecture, and I actually wanted to go and was upset if I slept through it (and I normally don't go to lectures at all). loved him!

I always looked forward to lecture.....at 8AM. Funny, entertaining and very knowledgeable professor. Truly enjoyed this class. No papers, just final + midterm.

VERY entertaining professor. Even though lecture is almost mandatory (because he does not post his lecture slides on gauchospace), you will not dread going to class because he is really funny! He is easy to understand and very friendly. Final is worth almost 50 percent of your grade but both midterm and final are straight forward!

I loved Professor Rawlings! He takes an interest in his students, actually took the time to learn my name. Tests were multiple choice and short answer, all taken out of the book and lectures. He's really funny, reminds me of Seinfeld.

Rawlings is amazing! He has so much energy, he is enthousistic. You gonna love his class. He makes the subject very interesting and makes you participate with clicker questions. easy A if you do readings an go to class.

Great Professor! I really enjoy going to lectures. Material can be applied to everyday life. His enthusiasm makes an 8:00 am class a lot easier to attend. Midterm was not bad as long as you attend lectures you'll do fine.

He's a new professor just came from Standford. I really enjoy his SOC1 class! He's good at making the 8am class interesting! He says "Hello Isla Vista" to us in the morning. The course itself is not hard and close to life, just do the reading.

Charismatic about tough material. Attendance not req but recommended, as the readings are difficult and he breaks it down. Both mid-term and final were take home.
